Why did you buy it if you don't know tho code? I mean... You can try and get a hold of the company and see if they can explain how to reset it.

Pfft. I'd give it 90% odds that he didn't know the code because it was stolen out of someone's car. I've had Kenwood systems before with this security feature, and the original owner has to fill out a warranty card with their name and info and a secret question and send it in. They won't give you the reset instructions unless you can answer the question. You're screwed.

he bought the car from a dealer with it in it and they told him all he had to do was call kenwood.....but he has no papers and he is from another country....not mexico....so he didnt want to call any attention....he lives about two houses from my cousin....so i doubt it is stolen....unless the person who sold the car to him had jacked it right before....

It might just be something that you can reset yourself if you know how. Go to the Kenwood website and see if the owner's manual for that model is available to read (probably a pdf).

What would be the point of Kenwood putting in the security code feature if they would just let you reset easily with instructions from their website or even by calling without proof of purchase?? So they include this security feature and then a thief can just call to reset it? No way... you're screwed.

waitwaitwait... if he bought it from the dealer like that... can't he get the coding info from the dealer?? They'd surely have that or be able to provide him with it (and therefore you...)

Not unless the dealer in turn got the coding info from the person that they got the car from. One of two things will need to happen. You can go through the dealer and see if they can get the person who they got the vehicle from on the phone to give up the code, or at least get the person to call kenwood and tell them he sold the car. or buy a new stereo. There is a slim chance that the guy you bought the stereo from might be able to call kenwood with proof of purchase for the vehicle and get the info.
