I would go with the 300TT. If you're going to have the style of the old zx, go all the way and get a classic S30 chassis 240-280Z. I just never liked the early ZX's.

Besides the VG in that TT is a great engine, even if it is near impossible to get to anything in that engine bay.

I vote for the S130, they are at the bottom of their depreciation, they are a much easier to work on, the parts are way cheaper

not a fan of the corvette sumer hood but otherwise apears to be a clean car

and automatic's suck

I personally would go with the s130 because it's 5spd. but it's already customized and me myself would get a stock car so i can tune it the way i like

But the Z32's are pretty sick....but the automatic trans. pretty much ruins that

I would still have to say the S130 tho

Don't let the auto turn you off. A 5 speed swap would be nothing to do for a car like that.

This thread is going to have a slant towards the classic Z.

I have to agree that the 280ZXs have kind of edgy styling. And I personally don't find them to be my style. But I have seen several beautiful examples, even in my local area. That white one would look pretty good with a stock hood and light covers. As previously said, the S130 won't be depreciating any more. They seem to be appreciating pretty rapidly if I say so myself. They are a lot less common than the Z32 which is good in my book. They are also much easier to work on.

The Z32's number one advantage (in my mind) is that it is younger. Less potential things to fix. But they are getting up in years. They have more modern styling and more modern amenities. 30 year old wiring is not a pretty thing. Swapping out the auto transmission can't be that difficult, so if the car is what you want otherwise then get it.

Oh... there is no doubt in my mind that a 300ZXTT will cost more to insure than a 280ZX. The less you have to pay for insurance, the more you have to spend on stuff you actually want to pay for.

he actually doublepostes, here and the Z32 section,a nd the Z32 section seemd to favor the S130 as well!?

at this point all Z32's are between 18-12 years old, not new, and parts ewear out, it's just a lot easier and cheaper to replace aprts ont he S130

what mileage do you have to start thinking about head gaskets on a 300ZX TT? The labor to do those can't be fun

I prefer the old school body styling but they're both pretty timeless designs, which is really what makes the Z's so great

milage on headgaskets? they don't go out with milage, they go out with detonation of driving hot

the Z32 is the only generation of Z car to not have guages int he center of the dash

the S130 is the only generation of Z to have a 2+2 turbo available in the states

good to know. I know some cars are predisposed to losing head gaskets around xxx,000 miles and others you don't need to worry about

and yes, detonation and overheating is bad

S130-

1) generally more unique on the roads today (not because of the "interesting" aftermarket hood on it either)

2) not one, not two but 5 speed...if you are using it to commute in daily traffic i would go auto but if you want it as a fun/performance car for toying around manual is the way.

3) parts are cheaper for s130

4) insurance likely much cheaper on s130

5) its still technically a DATSUN (not one of them new-fangled Nissan jobs)...and that rocks!

6) if you are homeless, you can keep warm at night by crawling into your s130's warm angine bay as there is plenty of room in there even with the L28et installed...try that with a Z32!

Even though I really don't care for the way the S130 looks (S30 FTW), I would go with the S130 in this case., for a few reasons.

!) From what I remember The 1990 Z had alot of problems with it, if I recall correctly. These were sorted out as the Z32 progressed.

2) The TT motor is awesome, but a real PITA to work on. The L motor is a fairly simple motor, with tons of room to work around.

3) I believe the S130 is lighter (correct me of I'm wrong on that one)

i think id go with the 280zxt. It's more uncommon then the 300 and can still make plenty of power and be super nice.
