I have this really terrible tick in my engine so I went to a mechanic and he told me it was a bad valve lifter, he gave me an estimate on how much it would cost to repair and it was nearly 625$: 600 of which was labor. Do you think it would be cheaper just to replace the lifter or buy a whole new head unit or whatever. Please help, for info I have a 1990 Nissan 300ZX.

sounds like an opportunity for an upgrade. Some hotter cams and full array of new lifters.

havn't had much experience with the VG30DETT but an oil change has been known to help with lifter issues in the L28ET, you getting good oil pressure? I know it seems like a lot of money to have the work donw bu these things are hard to work on and everything takes 2 or 3 times what most cars would take, either save your pennies or learn to do the work yourself or trade your car to me for my Miata
