Grats on the zx; I had the same year, but 2+2 turbo, they are fun cars.

Are you going forced induction, or sticking NA? That will help you decide the piping; turbo=bigger piping, NA = not so big

Welcome to NICO!

The most cost effective way to go fast in your s130 is to swap in the L28ET out of the 280zx turbo. Pretty straight forward and good bang for the buck as you can find them in wrecked s130's in salvage yards. As for wheels, look into the Watanabes and if they're a little too pricey check into SportMax as they make some deep dish old school style wheels in the correct bolt pattern.

Post up some pictures of your s130, we'd definitely like to see it.

thts a good looking clean S130,back to the origional question, turbo is the easy and cheap way to get power, and yes swapping the complete engine from a wrecked donor is the cheapest easiest way to go but you can also turbo your exhisting engine with out rebuilding but you'd still need the injector's turbo, dist managment etc from a donor so it's just easier to do the swap, you could swap in a higher compression cylinder head but the gain will be minimal, a lumpy cam can certainly wake things up a bit, you could bore and stroke the motor to 3.1 but you aren't wanting to build the motor so thats out, the stock engine managment sucks, most people making big power form the L28 either turbo or swap to carbs

that 250hp goal that crank or wheel? to get there n/a it's either full high compression build ro stroker, the turbo gets there with a little extra boost

hmm doesnt sound too bad. so basicaly id have to get the turbo, cam and management system? id like to get the 250 hp to the wheels but if i could get it to the crank that wouldnt be too bad either. how would a cam from a 240z work in the 280zx motor?

it's easiest and often cheapest to locate a wrecked donor and make the full swap, if you want to turbo your engine you'll need; oil pan, oil"T" and hardline, exhaust manifold, turbo, downpipe, "J" pipe, MAF, harness, ECU, injectors, distributor and shaft, fuel pump, and it's easier if you take the turbo intake manifold as well

Might sound like a lot but if you swap the whole donor it's less to deal with

Stock 180 HP, free flowing intake and exhaust with about 10 psi I'd boost will get you about 230 HP at the wheels, if you want more than that you'll need to add an intercooler

as in low restriction filter be it a drop in k&n or cone, in a best case you ditch the stock management and run the turbo with no filter or piping at all like me

(I honestly don't recoment this to anyone, mine is race only, all it takes is one stray pebble to ruin your turbo and possible your whole engine)

as for raising boost, you add a boost controller, there are mechanical and electronic, electronic is far safer and better but a lot more expensive, of course you want ao have a GOOD boost gauge and add boost slowly, too much and the engine could go by by
