Sadly getting started is the hardest part. It will cost you a ton of cash either way. If I were you I'd start with making sure your current 240 will be a good candidate for a drift car. Are the frame rails solid and strait?, is the car solid?. Is it a 5 speed (I hope it is). Start by checking the over all health of your car. The next thing that should be on your list is anything that will increase the safety level as you drive this car. Your going to need a solid racing seat to help you stay in place while sliding around. Also, get yourself some NICE racing harnes's. Make sure you get the harness brace for your car that will make your harness setup legit and safe. make sure your braking abillity is good enough for the power in your car (As you gain more horsepower, your breaks need to be upgraded).
After that I'd get yourself a welded Diff or some LSD guts. I use a Welded and its fun and there for you all the time. Can be severely annoying and embarasing daily driving but no less, it serves the cause for cheap. you will need some sort of differential work done in order to drift correctly. Wehter it be a Welded diff, Z32, R32, J30, or guts inserted into your existing pumpkin. The one wheel peel is not drifting.
After that Id look into stuff to stiffin up your car overall. Struts, sway bars, tension rods, Strut tower bars, ect, ect, ect...
Then I'd look into other stuff like more power if you dont have an SR, RB, 350 or some kind of power builder out of the box. Dont overlook the KA-T though. It's a nice build.
Thats just how I would start it. I got a little mixed up in everything as I am building my car because of good deals. I baught my SR20 for $500.00 when it was blown, now I've got around 4-4.5k invested in it. Completely built. Just take your time and do it right if your gonna do it. It's gonna be a long trip, costing alot of money. Just dont be one of the many retards who buys an engine and dumps it into their car without rebuilding it. At worst, atleast rebuild with OEM parts. It will save you a million headaches to come.
GL on your s*** man
