i have about $800 and i need a set of coilovers for my 240. i'm debating between Tein basic (no adjustability) and the Ksport (almost same adjustability as type FLEX) for about the same price $850 shipped). I nkow about Tein quality and pimpability, but i haven't found any reviews on the Ksport coilovers.

Could someone please give some personal experiance with the Ksport or offer a set of FLEX for $800 . if i don't buy some coilovers soon then i spend all my $$ on bills, and that will suck.

Thanks, and yes for the smart-a#$ that does nothing but sit at the computer all day and tell peple to search... i did. the only thing i could find were ads, but thanks anyway...

tein basic sucks.

ksport is better than basic, but if i were you(many other members would agree), I would save up a few more hundred dollars and buy something better.

i agree with these guys $800. is just not enuff if you save a little more like $1300 you have the pic of the litter. hope you plan on installing them yourself or know somone that can do it for you. becouse you have to factor that in to the price. you can always look for used ones might be the way to go if you dont want to spend more than $800

i would love to find some used set of Super Street's or Flex, or anything in that class for around that price, the thing is that i also need a clutch and flywheel set up pretty soon and i also have a family to take care of. So there is the reason for my strict budget.

i don't really want any of those (used from Japan) $500 sets on ebay because i've heard that they were designed for much smoother roads than we have here, and i don't want it to be too harsh for daily driving.

But if anyone has any "used but in good shape" coilovers, i am definitely interested.

and BTW thanks for the input

why does everyone hate on entry level coilovers? i mean, if you plan to track it regularly i can see why. but for DD'ing, and the occasional event whats the difference?

My opinion based on threads Ive read:Save for KTS coils ($1101) from http://www.splparts.com or go with a nice shock/spring combo. Koni Sport (yellows) and RS-R Race springs have gotten plenty of recommendations lately. The Konis from Tire Rack are $590 and the RS-R springs from SCO are $180.

yeah I definately wouldnt buy tein basics, they are just overpriced in my opinion.I would save up for some KTS's, Ive heard nothing but good about them. Or even some Megan Racing CO's some local guys have had good stuff to say about them

Casper what year is your 240? I'm thinking about getting rid of my Tein HA's for some KTS's

I'm a big fan of entry level coilovers. It's just that the basic doesn't have good features for what you pay for. It's basically a cheap name-brand coilover. A "pro drifter" friend of mine had them on his car while he was still a nobody, and he didn't like them.

The k-sport is slightly better, but they have problems with shock life. A friend of mine has had them for less than 2 years, and they are blown. I don't know if they have fixed the problem or not, but you might want to wait a little longer to see how they turn out.

I have d2 coilovers. The early versions had problem with shocks blowing out, which has since been rectified. I like mine for the price I got them for(free), but they don't "slam" the car, if that's what you're into. d2 is the company that makes k-sport.

I like the megan racing coilovers. A short ride on the street was exceptionally smooth, which shows that they have well engineered shocks. I also have several friends that are very happy with them. It's something I would highly recommend.

The kts coilover is what I would consider the top of the line entry level coilover. The sheer fact that spl was the first company to sell them should be testament to their quality, as spl has never been wrong. The positive reviews on this coilover have been nearly unanimous, and it is probably the fastest growing coilover in popularity in the 240sx market.

It seems that I went off on a tangent, but each of these coilovers is what I consider an entry level coilover. There are the cheap ones, and then there are the slightly more expensive ones. According to my review, it seems you get what you pay for.

one more to add to crzycav's list, silk roads are about $300 more expensive and not as popular as KTS, but theyre about equal from what ive seen in terms of quality, etc...

im a KTS person myself though

looks like a KTS kit will be on the way soon!!! i should be able to get the rest of the $$ up this weekend.

what do you guys think about 7/5 spring rates instead of 8/6(for the guys that actually have a set)? my s13 is my daily driver, and i have two small sons (one a newborn), so i don't want it to be too (...) harsh for them, but i want it to be right for autox adn maybe a little drifting on the weekends...

btw, i've read that SPL will have it at my door in less than 3 days... what will that run (for shipping) if anyone knows off hand?

Nah...

KTS 8/6s are fine, espesically if you haven't gutted anything. Just leave them on full soft daily and you'll only notice them when your going like 10mph over really nasty roads.
