Hey guys, not to beat on a dead horse, but I'm seriously getting sick of all the swirl marks on my black g35. I've tried many different types of scratch/swirl removers...and although they do a great job of minalizing the swirls marks... it just doesn't cut if for me. When the car is in the sun...it's like a flaw magnet. I was thinking about getting the whole car repainted but I'm afraid that eventually the swirl marks we come back again. So my question is...is there a special type of paint or clear coating that is resistant to swirl marks??? Does that exist? Price is not a factor...I need to do whatever it takes to make my baby look pristine and immaculate again.

Sorry to hear about your paint! When you wash/wax, don't go in circles...go in a back-and-fourth motion. For the fix, you may have to wet-sand. If you don't know what that is, have a shop do it!

Joe....do you wax your car or do you polish it with Zaino? Zaino is not doing a very good job on my car. I wonder if waxing is a better method when it comes to swirl marks.

Welcome to the club. My I30 being 10 years old didn't show the flaws that my 4 y/o G does

There are a few things you can do. One of them is like Joe said, have a body shop or a professional detailer work out the swirls.

Another option is to go with a different color.

Infiniti's new self-healing paint should do away with this problem, but I haven't read much first hand experience with it.

HAHAH I should just go to Infiniti and tell them to repaint my car with the self-healing paint. I don't care how much that costs! JUST GET IT DONE!! lol

Oh and by the way..I don't want a different color. My baby looks sooooo goood in black!!! But that's only at night time. Day time doesn't apply

I REALLY wanted an IP coupe. Price got me to buy my OB coupe. FAIL on me.

IP would have been soooo much better for me in SoCal. My temp gauge frequently reads 115 degrees

If you don't mind me asking, what do you wash/dry it with?

Once I waxed mine with a good abrasive wax, I have it looking pretty good. Nothing touches it but a good soft wash cloth, good quality car wash and (even though I know most of you don't like it) my Absorber. Never drop your washcloth on the ground or it could pick up abrasive contaminents.

Just my $.02 worth.

I wash mine with a soft sponge. I dry it with multiple micro fiber towels. Most of the swirl damage was done from the previous owner

Go get some Meguire's or 3M HAND polish. It must be applied by hand and in the shade. Its what my body shop guy recommends. Its like $15-20 for the bottle. You will have to get it at a professional auto paint shop most likely.

Just because it is a micro fiber towel doesn't mean it is not abrasive. One thing to consider with micro fiber is to get an edgeless micro fiber towel, the edge itself can cause problems.

To dry mine I use a silicone squeegee and then I wax. Many waxes suggest two coats about 1 day apart.

Zaino has never let me down...but I've never used it on a black car either. I don't think that what you use will affect swirl marks, its more in the application. If you apply the wax/polish in a circular motion, you will get swirls...

Have you tried a clay bar? They are supposed to remove swirl marks, aren't they?

It would at least remove any wax that might be on the car. Maybe the marks are only in the wax.

I would try the claybar, and if you have access to a random orbital, work the whole surface with a MILD polish. You need to make sure you're down to the clearcoat (no residue of old wax) and the clearcoat is clean. Sometimes swirls are just excess wax buildup. When done, your dry/clean finger should squeak when dragged across the paint.

Then just experiment and find the "right" wax, and use as little as possible. I use a damp applicator pad so the wax is applied thinly. I have had good luck with 3M wax and polish products. Most importantly for swirls, make sure the paint surface is cool when you apply stuff. No just out of the sun, but cool. Good luck.

If you want to learn how to remove the swirls and keep them gone you need to go to a detailing site.

Clay bars are usually used to remove surface contaminents, not to remove swirls. They are slightly abrasive.

Usually a fine cut polish will smooth out the edge of a swirl and make it disappear.

A thicker clear on our cars would open up a world of possibilities, but...

Sentientbydesign is right. Clay bar is meant to remove contaminants that can't be scrubbed off from regular wash. But it doesn't do much for the swirl marks. I think I'll just take it to a professional and see what they have to say. It's not that bad..but it's just really irratating to have such a beautiful car..but with so many flaws.

I used the old Zaino swirl remover on my black cobra (had terrible swirls) and it did MUCH better than the 3M swirl remover.

The 3M stuff will definitely build muscles!!!!

THe Zaino is ez to take off!!! However, I haven't used the new reformulated Zaino swirl remover on a black car, but it should do as good if not better.

Ah Now I miss my black G again.

Hope you can get it fixed and just try to keep it nice. I love black G most. When it is clean and detailed it looks so nice.

I think a clay bar may be used and success would be determined on what the swirl marks actually are. Some swirl marks are actually related to the waxing process which if not done properly does leave behind surface contaminants. The surface contaminants themselve can cause them as well.

I would definately use a clar bar as part of the overall process after giving the car a good wash using something like Dove or some other dishwashing soap.

Mine is Liquid Platinum so I don't see too many swirl marks, but I do take care when washing. I only use microfiber mitt, two buckets-one to rinse the mitt and the other for soap. I use Meguiars car wash and Meguiars nxt generation tech wax. Unfortunately I do sport several paint chips on the bumper, its like anything that touches that area takes the paint off, and 3 door dings from some wonderful individuals that hate to see people in a nice ride.

I have a brand new black G37X and have washed it (very carefully) and still see a few little swirls in it. It ticks me off because it has the new self healing clear coat and I didn't think I'd see these. ??

I plan on washing it again tomorrow so, I'll get a closer look but so far, I'm not impressed with the new clear coat.

The strange thing is that the clear coat may well not help with the swirl marks for such a short duration. It is my understanding that it may take several days to over a week or so for it to 'heal' flaws. So if the swirl makes come about due to washing and waxing then it may not be any better than previous versions. I also have picked up on the fact this may actually be more industry wide then just Infiniti due to environmental concerns.

I hear ya. I have same colour and same problem. I love the black, but... The trick is to look at your car from just the right angle, so it reflects the sky instead of the direct sunlight. Doesn't fix the problem but it makes me feel better. The reflection is so nice you could monitor a solar eclipse with it... sort of a car-mera obscura
