1) Shockingly, around here (general Boston area) I've yet to see someone honk when someone is crossing in a crosswalk.PoorManQ45 wrote:1: no, people would still honk.
2: did you speed up, slow down, or stay at the same speed? If either of the first two, you're a jerk.
While I agree with you, as far as what is common/typical for Boston drivers, it's those kinds of stereotypes which get perpetuated down to new generations of drivers so they think it's "cool" or "the Bostonian way" to drive.Bubba1 wrote:I would agree that sort of stuff would be considered stupid, but NOT for a Bostonian. That's normal behavior. Heck, the only time a true Bostonian turns on his turnsignals is to use the opposite one to fake out the guy in the next lane in order to sneak in front of him before he prevents him from doing it.
I don't see the traditional attitude changing anytime soon, so being "assertive" (sounds nicer than aggressive a$$hole) is the best way to get around there efficiently. I am a fellow "assertive" a$$h...er... driver, but I can see you are as just as Bostonian as the ones with whom you have issues.BigTDogg (MA) wrote: While I agree with you, as far as what is common/typical for Boston drivers, it's those kinds of stereotypes which get perpetuated down to new generations of drivers so they think it's "cool" or "the Bostonian way" to drive.
If I have my signal on to merge (not cut people off at the end of an exit only lane, but a genuine merge) and the ***hole behind me speeds up; I cut him off. F-U dude. I hate that I have to be a raging a$$hole while driving around here, but it's the only way. I still signal everywhere, even when I've got to do a quick right-left lane change to get around the speed limit driver in the left lane
I rarely have that problem as both my cars run sub 5 second 0-60'sBubba1 wrote:Take your example. You are entering the highway with your turn signal on. the Bostonian driver in the right lane of the highway sees your signal and predictably accelerates to try to prevent you from getting in front of him. You say "F-U dude" and cut him off before he has a chance to squeeze you out. You're Bostonian because not only did he have the right of way in that situation (which you ignored), you could have just as easily merged behind him in the gap he created when he suddenly accelerated. But NO! You had to get in front of him, Why? You're Bostonian.Just because you decided to telegraph your intentions doesn't mean Bostonians around you must do the same or obey you. That's just the way it is there. FWIW, I love driving in Boston, it keeps you on your toes. I think you should embrace the insanity (instead of hating it) as the driving there is one of the unique things that makes Boston fun.
AMEN TO THIS ONE.BigTDogg (MA) wrote:IF YOU HAD DONE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE, I WOULD HAVE LET YOU IN, MORON!

No, I missed that. Did he park it or break down?snwbrdr435 wrote:You didn't happen to catch the guy who parked his bmw in the middle of the green line yesterday did you
Not in MA, carrying a loaded firearm in vehicleis a felony here.mmkeller wrote:I agree with MoD, let the stupid drivers do anything they want. I don't drive like them, I'm a better person. Sure, sometimes I am amazed at what people will do when they get behind the wheel of a car. You can't fix stupid. Road rage will eventually catch up with these idiots.
That's your opinion, and I guess, yeah, I'm being a d!ck, but I don't care. If I'm not a d!ck, they won't use their signals, ever. The problem with the stupidity is that it manifests itself all around. When I hear about it or see it far away, then it's entertaining.themadscientist wrote:1st one, maybe, but 2nd one, no. Man you have no idea. It happens all the time! Atleast once a day sometimes more...NolimitZ32 wrote:Mark, I would imagine that in your business you get a lot more of these than most do.

And your insistence that they use signals as a measure of intelligence is yours. Are'nt opinions fun? They masquerade as facts all the time.BigTDogg (MA) wrote:That's your opinion, and I guess, yeah, I'm being a d***, but I don't care. Gotta find it on some legalese website, but my gun-nut friend mentioned it to me. Can't have a loaded handgun in the passenger compartment, has to be in a locked trunk. I dunno how you get around it in a pick up truck or wagon, but I was taking his word for it.snwbrdr435 wrote:Since when?BigTDogg (MA) wrote: Not in MA, carrying a loaded firearm in vehicleis a felony here.
It's about the law. Yes, I break it from time to time (speeding), but that doesn't affect anyone but me. You don't have to yield every time someone puts their signal on, however you're not allowed to "close the gap" by speeding up. At least not in CT where I got my license. It's obviously not an enforced law, as it's nearly impossible to catch someone in the act.themadscientist wrote: Perhaps every time that person put on their signal someone sped up to close the spot. Ever think about that? You are observant; how many times do you see that? How many times has it happened to you? How many times have you done it? It would thus be arguably stupid to use your signals if you wanted to get anywhere.![]()
Now, you don't care and you use that to justify your actions. Ok. Suppose that person uses that same justification for theirs. How is it that you feel you are right and he is wrong when you both lean on the same specious argument?

If it's not on your person or direct control it needs to be unloaded and locked in a "secure container". You can carry a loaded firearm all you want as long as your Chief of police deems you a suitable person.BigTDogg (MA) wrote:
