So yeah, went out to watch a killer storm with my soon to be wife in my Altima. While on my way back I didn't see the 2 1/2 feet of standing water on the road. From there on out the car began to knock and sputter. Between both of us having to work, plan a wedding and school, I didn't have a great deal of time to explore this new calamity so we've been driving it as is while getting appx. 10 miles to the gallon. I ran 3 gas treatments through it and that proved pointless. Bearing in mind that the IAC and the rear oxygen sensor was replaced very recently and I have pieced the exhaust system from the catalytic converter back this was the last thing I needed. Engine light has been on since the exhaust fell apart and despite replacement, still throws an oxygen sensor code but didn't effect performance. Following this soggy experience it then threw a knock sensor code. For ****s and giggles I then put in 3 gallons of premium and some octane booster; mysteriously it seems to have returned to normal "single-engined- plane" sound and performance. I can't afford to keep putting premium in this car and while octane booster can be bought rather cheaply, is there a way to avoid the $178 knock sensor that also happens to be very hard to get at on top of its high price?

You could have sucked water into your engine which would be bad. Other than that, the motor is pretty much water proof. Have you checked the plugs for fouling?

I highly doubt it's the knock sensor. My gf's knock sensor code was thrown but it was because she had a bad injector and it was causing the engine to vibrate irratically. I wouldn't worry about that because it's probably something else.

Do you have a CAI? Just hoping you didn't suck up too much water.

Try buying a spray can of Air Intake cleaner from a local auto parts store. Not to mention it is very handy to have if you use an oiled air filter.....
