I just wanted everybody to know that I hate Nissan brakes.

Well, actually just the rears.

Something as simple as changing the rear pads today took me almost two hours. The clips that hold the pads in kept falling out every time I tried to put the new pads in, and I even stripped out a bolt trying to bolt the bracket and caliper back together.

Just a little rant.

Well at least your brakes still work. Mine are failing right now. As for pads, I can do all 4 wheels in under 30 minutes.

The squeaking noise can easily be fixed by buying a can of Permatex Disc Brake Quiet and spraying the back of the pads when you have them out.

And I know I should have bought some new clips and shims with the new pads, but I was stupid and didn't, so I had to deal with it.

Yeah, I hated those pins on the rear brakes too . . . what a pain in the a$$ Nissan made those. I found that bending them a little bit with a pair of pliers made them stay in place, and thus made it a lot easier to put new pads in . . .

jk..

accully the backs arnt too hard to do, u just have to wind the back piston then slide the pads in.. takes a lil longer then the fronts but tis not that bad

Thanks for the advice. :)

But the problem lies in when you put in the brake pad on one side of the rotor and the clip completely pops out. Nothing to do with screwing in the piston with the brake tool.

Ugh, I need to go have a drink....

I tell you what sucks is not having the little tool and having to use a flat head screwdriver to screw the piston back in.

I hate nissan brakes because the stock setups are so weak. (at least on the 240) Its not that bad but if you drive a car with a nice stiff brake pedal and then get in the 240 you go: UGHhhh WTF!

cant complain about the pathfinders brakes. well, yes, i can, theyre TOO good.

but yeah, i feel your pain about the nissan 240 brakes. it took my dad and i forever to get the back pads on. we had to shave them a little and bend those tabs to get it to fit.

I like my brakes. I need a new brake master cylinder though, maybe one a bit larger and from a different car. :)

Alrighty guys, I'm suspecting a stuck caliper here, but I need someone to confirm.

I put the pads on yesterday with mostly reused bolts I got from a junkyard, but didn't take it for a test drive. I screwed in the piston just enough so there was space in between the rotor and both pads, and when I went driving today I smelled brake pads, and when I looked, my rotor was incredibly hot.

Someone confirm that this is a stuck caliper?

EDIT: If this doesn't get replied to, would the mods please move it into Nissan Online Mechanic?

Touchdown038, hmm i did a goof like that too 1 time... but it was w/ a parking brake cable.. i installed it & pulled a little to tight on the cable... may/may not be your problem.

I guess you'll haveta take it apart, relube the sliding pins, sand the surface of the pads/rotor & see if it is a stuck caliper...

I got it figured out over the weekend, turns out I didn't line up the piston outer markings with the round piece of metal sticking out of the back of the inner pad, and it was forcing the pads against the rotor at all times.

Popped out the pads, turned the pistons a little more to line them up, bolt everything back together and it's fine now. No more annoying grunt from the rear when I'm backing up!

even the S13 brakes are better than AE86 crap brakes.
