please flame all you want but also help me out of this situation.

bought a '90 SOHC. and it really sucked the balls as it was.... full of dents. crashed fender missing interior parts. needed a daily so it became one after the necessary under the hood. runs great but sounds like crap. i ran out of money to fix the multi-leak exhaust it had. and then a horrible thing happened, i got some free time!!! and got some tools!!!

i had a resonator pipe (3"in/3"out) and is like 20" long. also a Thrush muffler(3"in/3"out). i installed them, removed the catalytic converter (it was rusted and leaking) used 2.5" piping. i will not have a chance to work on the car until later next week.

i will post a sound clip or video. but you have probably a good idea of how it sounds. like a civic..... a fuc*ing civic!!!!

its loud, annoying. cop magnet.....and the vibration..... sounds good only at idle.

i was not expecting it to sound badas ss or anything like that. i just needed an exhaust and used what i had.... i make retarded decisions all the time. but nothing as bad as this...

What should i remove? or replace? should i just run the muffler by itself?...

Uggg what? Are you drunk? You got a s***ty 240 and put s***ty exhaust on it? Now, how can we help?

I suggest a bolt up exhaust system, but it sounds hacked up. So then take it to a muffler shop.

never liked those thrush mufflers.but with a 3 inch pipe it shouldnt sound like a civic dude.ditch the resonator pipe, its useless and heavy and its almost 2ft long.heck ditch that muffler too.

now im anxious to hear the clip though....

i vote you make a trip to the df dub and buy a stock exhaust from me. 20 bucks and its yours. it has no holes etc and isnt rusty

in my experience, either buy a full exhaust including a header so everything is new, gaskets, bolts, piping, etc.. or bring your car to a shop to have them weld/fix whatever is wrong with your exhaust. if you find a decent shop they can usually hook you up between 15 -40 bux, it doesnt take long on a lift to patch/cut w/e it is that you need them to do. even if you go with the cheap ebay mufflers with a silencer, they still sound acceptable (with the silencer) after a clean exhaust job. its understandable not having disposable income to fix your car the way you want but a terrible sounding car is pretty damn annoying to you and others around you, esp rev happy ricers.

I agree. I still feel that in order to feel better about myself, this is something i should attempt again. i might just screw it up more.

so what is it? the different size of piping? that crappy resonator?

i might just check ebay out. is just a sohc dont really care for performance at all. just want to be able to listen to tool while i drive.

yeah i had a few beers. living life as a ricer is not easy on top of the fact that my car already looked like a POS.

replaced the resonator with a small mexican chambered muffler that all it does is silence it a little. i thought it was going to be all restricted but no, it still feels like its easier to rev thru. im not saying i got hp gains. I left the Thrush muffler on....

its not that loud anymore for having no CAT. And now instead of sounding like metal grinding against metal it just sounds deep.

we'll see what the pigs say...

i did find a significant decrease in the number of civics wanting to race at stop lights and such. so im good for now. plus going to Juarez was quite an experience like always.
