I have Moog outer tie rod ends that i got from PDM-racing; replaced those last year along with new OE t/c rods (couldn't afford the urethane bushing ones).

I just had some alignment work done under warranty at NTB 2 1/2 weeks ago and now I have this nasty wheel shimmy all of a sudden now, and my car's front end loves to track into the tiniest of imperfections on the road and the steering wheel doesn't seem centered/has some play. I hear a metal against metal sound when i cover even very small bumps, but i can't tell if it's my springs hitting, the inner tie rods making a noise or the top bearing mounts for the front struts (one strut mount in the rear is new). I don't think its the top bearing mounts because it's not a violent noise. I'm kinda narrowing it down to the inner tie rods since they haven't been replaced yet. SO my question is, what parts do i go with now? I am not impressed with the condition of my Moog outer tie rod ends at this point. I noticed that Phase2 has a Kazama combo kit for s13's

http://www.store.yahoo.com/pha....html that includes inner tie rods and outer tie rod ends for $269. I don't know if i want to go ahead and spend that much but i need something that can take the abuse of daily driving in this crappy area. Is there anyone else that makes this stuff for cheaper but higher quality than moog/OE ?? And will i have to upgrade my t/c rods w/ urethane bushings because i upgraded the tie rods ends? Or is that more of a "do it when you can" kind of replacement?

sorry for being so verbose but i like to give a lot of info.

hmm..i just installed some rear moog ball joints not 2 months ago,... don't tell me this...

btw: I heard moog doesn't make any components. They just import them from different companies under "moog's specs" so that could be a problem. The ball joints I got were mexican, but there's other countries of origin as well.

you could always get the other stuff offered on checkers or pep boys... but to be safer I'd go w/napa. Although by then, maybe nissan would be the better of them all.

BTW: have you checked to see what may be causing this? Maybe the steering rack is somehow affecting them?

If i were to go to Napa to get those parts, what would they hand me? Moog parts. I could go to Nissan and be done with it, but i'd like to see if i can 'upgrade' first. I did consider the steering rack, the middle of it has some surface rust, and the steering rack bushings are not cracked (aftermarket steering rack bushings aren't recommended for daily drivers anyway--so i read). I haven't had a power steering flush since i've had the car (2.5 yrs). Could that cause strange handling? It's not as if it's hard to steer, it's almost 'loose' in a way. I may just have to go back to NTB to have the alignment checked again and have the wheels balanced ( i hate to bother them, every time i go in, and i don't have to pay for something, i think i don't get the work done that the car needs).

Well i may end up getting the Tein/Kazama combo. Would i have to upgrade the t/c rod's bushings as well? If so, i better get some whiteline t/c rod bushings and find someone with a press

No autozones around here. Well i think there's one but its in the Italian ghetto of Wilmington, I'd rather not drive into there. Not in my car at least

I replaced my T/C rod bushings with Nismo units from my local Nissan dealership. They cost something like $33 each. Not bad, but remember you still have to rent a tool or pay someone to press them into the T/C arm.

Hey, that's not bad for bushings, PDM wants $55 or so for their whiteline units.

sky i had a similar problem, and i had moog tie rod ends, and stock inner tie rods, i bought the Tien tie rods and tie rod ends (came as a set). I couldnt of been happier. Quality is A++, i got them for $160 shipped from a GB. You should be able to get them shipped for 200 or less I believe.

Not only did they eliminate most of the shimmy i was getting, but the car tried to track less by itself and just plain felt better. It still has abit of a tracking problem, but I'm completely replacing all bushings and LCA joints during my suspension build up. Also as a bonus they come with spacers that you use to increase how much your wheels can turn. Its already easy to park with our cars.... now we can turn even tighter when at full lock, its amazing.

I do not think your problem lies in the tension bushings, though i could be wrong. I installed whiteline tension bushings a long time ago, and were there the entire time with and without the shimmy.

I also noticed that the shimmy was greatly reduced when having the wheels with the heaviest weights on the rear and the smallest weighted wheels on the front. I have two wheels with 3 small weights and 1 large weight each (must be slightly bent). Might want to check that as well.

fwiw i just ordered the tein rods and ends from everything nissan http://www.trademotion.com/par...42189 153 shipped. i still have the stock rods and ends but just finished a suspension refeshning. ksports, energy hyperflex kit, new ball joints front and rear. the rods were part of the project i just held out til i found a good price.

regarding a press, i made my own for less than 45 bux. most expensive peice was the 12 ton bottle jack from wally world at 30 bux or so.

Skydragon.....

I believe that I made a post a while ago about how crappy my MOOG tie rod ends were. I also ordered them from PDM racing and they only lasted about seven months before they failed............the passenger side was quite dramatic as I was going 70 MPH on the highway!!!

It was sheer luck that I didn't crash into anyone. The driver's side failed about two weeks later (after I inspected it no less) in the Border's parking lot as I was pulling out. All I did was block traffic and look like an @s$.

You know how the saying goes: "If I had two more arms I'd give those tie rod ends four thumbs down!"
