Here's something to be pissed off about:
I worked 11:50hrs today. I get home, and at 10pm I get a call from dispatch to go change a blown out semi truck tire on the interstate. It's drunk-thirty Friday, and I'm on the shoulder of the highway, changing a tire which happens to be on the traffic side of the semi truck.
The truck driver was kind enough to find a good piece of shoulder to pull on to, but when you're working on the side of the freeway, there is never enough room to feel safe. So, long story short, as traffic is merging onto the freeway(we were near an on-ramp) it bottles up and people wait to merge. While drivers are checking over their left shoulder, looking to merge into freeway traffic, they neglect to notice my F450 with strobes, hazards, and safety triangles placed alongside the road.
Back to long story short.. a would-be Speed Racer is hauling a** trying to merge, isn't paying attention, clips one of the reflective safety triangles which splinters into the air, drives OVER the white line(the line separating the freeway from the shoulder) and comes within 4 feet of killing both myself and the trucker. I'd estimate he was doing 60+ and accelerating, judging by the induction wail his dohc honda engine was emitting.
I almost died tonight.
When both of us caught our breath, we shared a look like we just escaped death. It was dark out, but we could see each other's eyes. When the work was done, me and this truck driver shook hands, and we both knew. We almost died, but didn't. My next shift starts in 6hrs, 24mins..
Looks like I made it through Friday the 13th unscathed.
