just got some junkyard Z calipers, and the threads for the brake line insert are mashed. One of the things I do not like doing is retapping aluminum. I always have the worst luck when I do

Just get rebuilt aluminum ones, and trade in your stock calipers after a few days. They WILL NOT know the difference.

And then sell your aluminum ones.. You'll probably gain back most of what you lost.

EDIT: Also, where did you get the calipers from? A lot of junkyards have a 30 day warranty on non-electrical parts. Returning them may be an option for you.

if the people running the place know enough about cars and the parts; which i would imagine a junkyard owner would; then they will know the difference

I think he meant put them in the box from the parts store after cleaning them up.

Most parts store guys do not pay attention to returns enough to notice the difference.

edit: whoops, nevermind. But that's a good idea too.

retapped. it can be a pain, but only the top few threads were screwed.

and i doubt that the yard would take them back since it was me who screwed the threads up. Put the inverted flare in wrong and it amazingly managed to grab some of the threads. It only took a wrench to screw the threads up.
