so today wasent to bad out so i drove my 240, ok so i get off work, and went got some gas then to the coin wash to get rid of the salt, its only 18* out and im washing my car, and on the way home the back of my car snaped over to the right, and the whole thing started shaking, I pull into the turn lane and got out and right rear has a grand total of 1 lug nut remaing on the wheel so i limped it back to my house (about 10 blocks ), the studs look like the lug nuts broke off and the studs im sure are shot .

so would the really hot water i sprayed on nuts and them refreezing cause this? and how much is this gonna cost me?

i dunno what could have caused it but replacing is relatively cheap if you do it yourself. its around 3 bucks per stud and can be bought from most any autpparts store. i have replaced a few on my 240 already.or as just stated 5 lug swap and some epic wheels

ya but it was very bad snap and i dont know if it bent any thing or not , im gonna take it up to my high school auto shop and take a look at it there and im gonna do any work there to cause its freakin cold out, our 5 lug time.

but then i would need new rotors to and what calipers should i go with?

you can run stock calipers with a 5-lug swap, you would just need to have your stock rotors redrilled (15 bucks).

but if you want to swap brakes too i would go for the 300zx swap.

i really dont think that 200 degrees to 0 in a matter of minutes would give you that problem, brakes can reach 1000 degrees and the wheel studs will withstand. That being said they were probably fatigued from years of over torquing and heat cycles. just coincidence.

wow that sucks...good thing you didnt crash. its very easy/cheap (if you dont do a 5 lug) to change the studs

It's really cheap to fix... just go to oreily's buy some lug nut bolts.. remove your rotor.. hammer old one out and new one in. Your lucky to be alive btw!!! You should save the last lugnut left put it on a pedestal and sacrifice virgins to it daily!
