So i got it all apart, above is a link to my gallery. Some carbon buildup but in my totaly in-experienced view, its probably not too bad since i was running so rich.

Feedback?

don't look too bad from the ouside but looks like the engine could use some good ol fashioned elbow grease and cleaning. The top of the block you can take it to a machinist to get it decked which you should consider doing. If you go that route, just sit back and let the machinist hot tank the bugger and deck it flatter than my ex-girlfriend.

I dont have an engine hoist or any means of transporting a block.. so while i am sure you are correct i dont think that having any such work done is going to be an option currently.

You blew the HG right? Bring your head to a machine shop to get planed to make sure it's not warped. Have them inspect the rest of the head. When I blew mine I spent the money on new guides, a 3-angle valve job (go with a 5-angle if you can), new seals, and a thorough cleaning. The entire cost was around $230 iirc.

To clean the block surface, take a razorblade and scrape off the old gasket. There's more than one method to prepare the mating surfaces...some people use sand paper but I used a scotchbrite pad. Once they looked good I sprayed some copper spray on both sides of the gasket and installed. Mine was a cometic HG btw. Been working well for about a year now.

Nah i didnt blow it. i have that snapped exhaust manifold stud. the head is definatly going to the machine shop.

While is there i had planned on a cleaning and light P&P. I wanted to do the valvesprings/retainers myself, but i suppose if geting a valve job is that inexpensive i'll just have them do the 9-yards.

Id be leery of using sand paper, but you are the second person to tell me a scotchbirte pad, so thats probably how i'll be doing it.

when i was looking to get a valve job enjuku told me that any reptubale honda shop should be fine because the procedure is pretty close to the same.

pretty much the same. jsut logically remove things till you get to the head studs. you'll need a 10mm hex drive for the head studs iirc. jsut label everyhting and you'll be fine.
