To cut the story short, I bought a blacktop sr20 that is in a s13 shell from a guy for $2100. He claims he never ran it (it isn't hooked up, but it's in the engine bay). Two days later my friend points out that only N/A sr's have distributors. I contact the guy and ask for my money back. His response, "already spent it."

I don't want to do the same thing he did and screw someone else over.

What I bought:-blacktop SR20DE-t25-$150 turbo mani-new oem oil pan-ACT 6 puck clutch and flywheel-maxima rad with two fans-completed wiring harness for s13-hks intake and maf-s13 sr exhaust-walbro-ebay fmic

i also have (but didn't buy from him):-s14 with a stock, auto ka running fine-5 speed swap minus transmission-turboxs rfl-sr coilpacks

I have no idea what to do. I'm thinking about: -finishing the swap in the s13 and selling that -selling it as is/unfinished -putting the sr in the s14---or----putting my ka in the s13 and selling it, selling the sr20 with all the turbo parts, and using the money to buy a real sr20det for the s14

Basically I want to keep my s14 and I want an sr20det, but I don't know how to get at least the majority of my $2100 back. I don't really know why I'm posting.

ohh man yup i thinks u got boned. The distributor on the turbo motors does not have spark plug wires. It has one electrical connector that sends firing sequence to the COIL PACKS not spark plug wires. You'll need to provide an engine code for us to verify that it is a de not a det

It's an S13 SR20DE, no question. You could still turbo it though, with very nice results, but you wouldn't be able to take it quite as far as you would with a full 8.5:1 CR SR20DET.

Edit:I have an S14 SR20DE that I've been running a T25 @ 12PSI on for over 3 years now, never a sign of trouble.Granted I use a water+alcohol spray too, because of the 10:1 compression ratio, but your S13 DE would be a little more forgiving than mine, since it's 9:1 (or was it 9.5:1, I forget exactly).

I've been doing research on this today, and I think I'm going to continue with the swap. I'm only looking for a reliable 250whp. I just don't know why he really sold it (if he ran into something I don't know about). Probably going with a t28.

Not a Distributor its a Cam Angle Sensor. Thats too bad man, i say build a bad a** turbo used to be NA SR, depending on the condition of the car you may not have gotten too bad of a deal. As for not noticing that when you first bought it i dont even know what to say.

You could always drop a set of low compression pistons in if you decide to go for more power later... although I've heard of people getting some pretty high numbers out of these motors, as long as detonation is kept in check.

2000-2004 alot of people used the dist and KA ECU to run the SR20det motors as many engine did not have CAS and ECU with them...

Isnt it also pretty "noobish" to say a sr20det has a distributor??? Its a cam angle sensor...

you didnt really get screwed over as bad as you think...yeah its a sr yeah out of factory it was N/A but if you boost it you can see some really good numbers...like the guy in previous post said not as good as the sr20det but still good numbers...you just paid for something that wasnt worth that much...if someone screwed me over like that i would try and repay them in some way

yeah, it was more or less buyer's remorse. it turns out it was partially seized. the pistons were salvageable but i just got a gasket set, piston rings, and bearings. cams will probably need to be resurfaced because it looks like it sat with the valve cover cap off and they have some rust on them.

going to do a rebuild, then try and get 3000-3500 for it and start on my ka-t for my s14.
