I paid a guy here in town, a very highly recomended person, $600 to do my 5spd swap. It never has been right. Clutch engagement point moves around, slips sometimes, etc etc. Just hasn't been right. So I finally get tired of his crap and lies and went to another shop to try and get it fixed. I thought that the clutch was slipping and everything because of a misadjusted clutch master cylinder. The guy that did my swap adjusted it a couple times. That helped, but didnt' solve the problem at all. Then, for some stupid reason went BACK TO HIM AGAIN to try to get it fixed. He said he needed to shim my clutch master cylinder. Ok, do it I said. I go back, he said no I needed a new slave cylinder cause this one was sticking. I was kinda weary of this, but got a new Nissan one put on. Didn't help the problem. So I finally got smart and even more tired of him, and went to another shop. A vietnamese guy named Hung Trihn. He is VERY good, works on nothing but foreign cars, etc. Later on it is finally concluded that the guy that did my swap did a CRAP job. I could already tell this, but it even worse than I thought. Only 2 of the 8 bellhousing bolts are the right size, most of the bolts holding the pressure plate and flywheel in are the wrong size, and are tightened either too much or too little, etc etc. This is all fixed now, but I still dont have the car back. Long story why not, i dont wanna type it all cause this is already long and that is another whole thread in itself, but I'm pretty pissed right now. You guys think I should even bother going back to this guy and asking for some of my money back or anything? I mean God, this is BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah man, go get your money back! There has to be some kind of customer satisfaction clause on the paper you (hopefully) signed.

I'm sure somebody else knows a little more about this than I do, though.

I dont expect all of it back by anymeans, because yes, he did swap it, *somewhat* successfully, but I think I deserve something. I am paying WAY to much money to fix his screwup not to get something back from his lazy a$$.

Just a question though.... you didn't provide him with the right bolts for the bell housing? Or did he just use bolts he found lying around?

At the very least go back to ***** at him, even if you get no money back, you get the satisfaction of yelling...

make sure the guy that did all the repair work documents EVERYTHING he had to repair or that he found to be done improperly. Then when you go to get a settlement with this guy you have a huge list lying in front of him pointing out all his less then professional work habits. Explain to him that the work he has performed to your car in some aspect had effected its ability to be driven safely although you have gotten it fixed you feel that he needs to provide you with some sort of restitution so you wont have take the proper steps with the automotive authority in your state reguarding the risks he presents to the other drivers of your community.

NISTECH, thats an awesome idea. I'm sure he will at least remember what he had to fix, so I will ask him to make out the list of what he had to fix for me.

Touchdown: I didn't provide any bolts at all, just the parts themselves. He just found these bolts lying around I assume.

Nathan: I plan on yelling alot, heh.

Bandit: I would have, but had no time, and the people that were going to help me had no time either.

Fred: I have no idea about going about filing a complaint with the BBB. I'll have to think about doing that....

I woul djust have the guy pay for the thing to be fixed rightly. He did provide his labor on your car so he earned the 600 technically. But I would definitely make him pay for the rest of the costs to get it done correctly.

if you approach this the way i suggested the best way to do it is to approach him in a very calm proffesional manner. in other words walk in there with the " I got you by the balls" attitude with a fat grin on your face while you are talking to him. The idea is to put the fear of disiplinary action by your states automotive repair governing agency. Dont go in there with a set amount you want either. cause as every one said he did work on your car and performed a task most places wont. Just make it known to him you expect him to help in paying for his screw ups.

IMO, the most powerful thing you can do is: don't do business with him again and tell everybody you know not to do business with him. Be sure to explain why you don't support him, so people know you have a legit gripe, not just a personal beef.

Word of mouth still owns shady businessmen.

sounds like the typical mechanic. is he a real one? as in, does he work at a shop? is this side work he was doing for you? if he works at a shop/ or owns one.. is it a member of the Better Buisness Bureau? If it is, i think you can get justice by contacting them. Most likely it is not. You could look into taking legal action perhaps. But i wouldn't go back to the person. Most definately.

i didnt read it all, but get it fixed and get a reseat for the work the other guy had to do to get it fixed, then bring that to the guy that did the swap, show him how much it cost to fix his mistakes and tell him u want all the money back, if he says no, agree to ateleast get 75% of your money back, if he declinds call the BBB and tell him that u will see him in court (bluff if need be) but that should get him to move...

You can't really trust anyone to work on your car anymore. All they care about Is getting It done the fastest and cheapest way. When I had a rebuild on my truck engine and It turned to junk within 10k miles, I learned to do everything my self. I don't let anyone besides me or close friends work on my car. Sorry about your loss, and you should really try to get your dough back. Good luck man.

Nistech - you are most definately correct. I will just go in there and act calm and professional and see what he has to say about stuff. I hope it works :/

SmithSR - I have already told quite a few people that I am not a fan of his by any means, and told them why. They have all been suprised, and then said they wouldnt' go to him for anything anymore. I think I am going to cause some damage with this, heh.

Nick- yea, its BS. I wish mine had went as smooth as yours, and everyone else I have heard of for that matter that swapped. *sigh*

You can't trust anyone to work on a car anymore. I hear more horror stories than success stories anymore.
