My '89 240sx runs smoothly, quietly and nice when the power is fully charged. When my battery starts to get weak i get a ticking sound in the motor...?? Any suggestions???

The ticking sound is probably the timing chain. This is very common among these motors after time. What are some of the other symptoms when your power level drops? Is it when you come to a stop and step on the clutch or when you're at idle, etc.?

Do you have any mechanical ability? LoL You can do some simple tests to see if your alternators weak, since your losing power. Ticking could be a bad alternator or a seizing up a/c compressor, I've heard them make some damn weird noises. Would explain the power loss, the a/c is a load in itself, but if it's hanging up. Ticking could also be coming from many parts in the head.

ticking loud enough to hear from your cabin is not good. Why not just examine the engine bay when it's idle.

Fix your #1 problem first; if your battery starts to get weak, that indicates either a bad battery or a bad alternator.
