I got an '88 300ZX Z31 as a gift from my grandpa (original owner) as my first car. I know I'm so lucky and I really appreciate it. It has some little things wrong with it like: Paint peeling, brakes expended, brake lines broken, starter isn't as reliable, the overdrive is either stuck, or doesn't work, headlights don't go up and down (so they stay up), mirror controls unresponsive, the t-top covers are cracked and shrunken, the t-top key doesn't match the ignition key, and the right side-view mirror won't stay on. I know a lot of these can be fixed, and the paint peeling and brakes are in the works (I feel kind of bad not painting it it's original color). I was wondering though if anyone could guide me through some of these problems. Someone who knows a lot about the car.

Here are some pictures of my car:

Also, today I'm working on rekeying the lock for my t-tops that doesn't match the ignition key. Anyone can help? Here's a link to my post on this:

You have a Z31. It falls under the "classic Z car" headings. Stay away from the Z32 section. Most won't have a clue what you're talking about most of the time.

To get the locks re-keyed, go to a lock smith. Even Home Depot may be able to do it for you. If you take them the key and the lock, they should only charge you $5 or so. That's what it cost me at Home Depot for my front door lock to get re-keyed.

Also, the picture on your facebook... That's of an 84/85 model. Note the headlights. Very different from yours.

Well if I rekey one thing I want to rekey the whole car I don't want to have a key for each lock. I think I'm better off making a new key from Nissan. Also, are you absolutely sure its not an '88? Because my grandpa who bought it says its an '88 and when I search on Google they all look exactly the same as mine. The only picture with different headlights is the one of the advertisement but I'm not sure what year that one is.

You have a key that works the doors, ignition, trunk, etc, right? So take that key and the locks that it doesn't work to the locksmith and have the new locks redone to match the key you already have.

Your car is an 88. The 5th picture on your facebook album, the one you have titled, "lol I found this ad of my car from 1988 XD" is NOT an 88. It's an 84 or 85.
