Well I picked it up yesterday and I was so excited (96 Toyota Tacoma regular cab 4X4). Today I've been doing routine maintenance on it (greasing everything on the driveshaft, oil change, radiator flush, plugs, pcv valve, fuel filter, oiling the ebrake cable, oiling the leaf springs). After I get all that done, I need to finish cleaning it because it is very very dirty. The windows aren't clear, but a brownish color from dirt. :rolleyes I'll get some pictures later on tonight.

I'm waiting for the guy to come with my Amsoil, so I can get the transmission, transfer case and F&R differentials changed out.

My Tacoma is similar to yours. but I have '97 extended cab 4x4. I've used 4 different suspensions under it and I'm on my 6th tire package, 5th wheel set. I've had two motors, one winch, two rear sliding windows($900dealer price :( ) three windshields, 4 sets of front brakes & rotors, two timing belts, two water pumps, etc etc, 4 stereos..

right now i have a panasonic dvd player in the dash, MBquart mids /highs, JL amps, JL subs hidden in the rear side panels, so the only obvious interior mod is the head unit, which until it was installed, meant the entire interior, with the last HU's face removed, looked absolutely OEM, when in fact there are $5k in parts & labor, including alarm with shock, proximity, interior motion sensor :D pins in back slider(how the last crooks broke in) hood pin, doors, lights tied in, kill switch, back up batt, remote start, auto locks also.

Other stuff eludes me at the moment.. but your truck looks good! Keep her clean and she'll last you a long time.

Phil

Thanks guys. Right now I'm just working on getting it tuned up and replacing parts that are over half worn. I love this truck though....kinda wish it was a king cab though. What do you guys think about the cap....keep it or sell it? The only thing I want to get is a brush guard with lights on it....other than that I'm just gonna keep it stock.

Sell the cap, and get a fiberglass bed cover that lays even with the bed.

I was just thinking about getting a tonneau cover....but one of the nicer ones. How much can you sell a Leer cap for anyway?......I might just keep the cap through the winter and sell it in the spring when I'm working full time on my internship.

Well the Tonneau cover is what I am talking about, only it's the nice fiberglass kind with hydraulic strong arms. Not the ones that stick up a couple inches but the one that lays even with the top of the bed. Nice lookin' stuff. No clue what the cap is worth.

Yeah I know what your talking about but they aren't practical for me, so I'm not considering them. I'm either keeping the cap or getting one of the fold up (roll up) tonneau covers. I need something that you can leave in the truck when your hauling stuff, as I have to move my stuff to school and such(5.5 hour drive).

Yeah that is the disadvantage of the fiberglass cover.

Got to do the "official" before and after pics

Before

After good cleaning

I say leave the top on, the soft covers won't fair well in your colder winter climate and as you mentioned the hard cover's limit your hauling ability.

Its got 87k on it and it's a 96. I'm thinking no on letting you borrow it for a couple years. I wish it was a king cab though and it has power nothing. :rolleyes
