Car: COUNTERSTRIKE!

so i'm coming home from a night class at chabot college and reach the overpass where i wanted to get onto 880 north. I see the car ahead of me braking VERY quickly so i slam on the brakes. I stop in time with about 5 feet of space between me and the car in front. A split second later BOOM my whole car lunges forward, and my head is thrown back into my seat. A red galant (i think) rear ended me...rear bumper and quarter panel got all dented and discontorted. funny thing was it revealed an old dent that was patched up with bondo. The earl scheib paint came right off too. the pipe leading to my muffler got pushed in also, and now its rubbing against my lower left suspension arm. I dont know how that affects it...but i'll leave it for the adjuster to see. Just thought i'd share this with all of you. I'll have pictures soon for you guys to see.

I feel bad for the passenger of the car that hit me though. She's 7 months pregnant and didnt feel good after the collision. They rushed her to the hospital in an ambulance. i pray her and her baby are alright.

Insurance agencies look out in their own company's interest. If you get a lawyer, he's getting paid to look out in your interest. Lawyers are like nukes, everybody's got them.

I've been searching for that @(*^@#in underspoiler since I got the car (I don't like ebay too much so I try to stay away) and the junk yards around here seem to have a shortages of 240s.

I'm glad you're alright, and hope you get the money to fix your car+a little extra. Its lawyer time.

you might be able to walk away with new body panels, paint job and exhaust, if you play your cards right :)

haha...yeah i hope i play my cards right then. it would suck if the car is totalled though. It's considered totalled if the cost to fix it is higher than the value of the car right? A lawyer sounds like a good idea...but i already have insurance and dont lawyers cost a lot?

man....with all that damage to your rear end, are you SURE your neck doesn't hurt? I'm a doctor, and i say you have a couple of sprained discs. My prescription is $50,000 and a hooker.

It's sad to know that the driver behind you was a pregnant woman, however rear end collisions can easily be avoided by just keeping a good distance.

Most Lawyers don't cost anything unless you get paid money from the insurance company, in which case the would take like 1/3. I'll be honest with you, it sounds as though you can recieve a good settlement.

:yesnod. And yes its totalled if it costs more to repair than what its worth...which for an S13 would take very little now.

im going to see the chiropractor tomorrow. It's not all that bad i guess. my salvaged 1990 240sx doesnt take much to total it. i just feel slight pain in certain positions with my neck. Heres some pix of my car. I think you can see all the bondo that was used for a dent long ago. I never even knew about it and had the car for two years. That part buckled so easily and seemed unrelated to the collision at all. The quarter panel is kinda flared out, and the trunk doesnt sit properly. It actually pops up now when i turn the key. The tailpipe is rubbing against my suspension arm. I dont think you can see it actually touching, but it is. And yes, it's a cheap muffler. can't beat 30 bucks : ) cracked my tail light too.

I've been through this a couple of times. If you have someone you know that is in the field of body work, get him to try and quote a higher price on the body work, and have that appraisel ready for the adjuster. YOUR ADJUSTER WILL TRY TO GIVE YOU THE LOWEST PRICE TO FIX YOUR CAR. Show your adjuster the new estimate, BOOM, you get extra cash. FIGHT the quote he gives you. My last claim (fender bender) was quoted around $500. I got $1100 out of it to get it fixed right, and got a few new tricks out of it.Seriously, Fight The Quote He Gives!

Point of interest: I think its somewhere around if the car has 70% damage of what the car is worth, THEN ins calls it totaled. Not sure, but i think its 70 at least here in cal

It's so easy to total it being rear ended. I got rear ended no visible cracks in the bumper a little off in allignment and some scratches but it cost $1100!

my neck didn't hurt at all for the first 10 or so minutes, then it got kinda stiff for the rest of the day (accident was about 11 am). woke up the next morning and it was very stiff. i had to turn at the waist to look around. it got a lot better over the next 3 days, but my therapist could still find tight areas for like 7 weeks. i was goin to see that guy 3 times a week for an hour each time. his place is in castro valley

wow that sucks driftaholic. Mine isnt that serious. my chiropractor says i have some stiffness in my neck and lower back area. The massage machines they have are awesome. They put me on some kind of waterbed then on a rolling drum type thing that rolls up and down my spine.

I got an attorney so both insurance companies go through him now. I hope we sue for enough money to cover mine and my friends medical costs, since he was inured too, the car, and the lawyer's fees. It'd be a shame to send the car off to a junkyard. It's still very driveable. My friend says i might be able to buy it back from the junkyard. We'll see how it goes.

keep in mind that the amount of money your lawyer will demand from the other guy's insurance is most likely based on how much medical you rack up. i had about $5000 in medical so my lawyer demanded. 4 x medical = $20,000. of course they only paid like 1 x medical, but if my medical had been lower, the payout would have been lower too. i probably really only needed 1 month of therapy, not 2, but my therapist was cool and wanted me to get a new car, so he told the doctor i probably needed another month lol.
