When I worked at advanced auto the commercial accounts would always call in and ask what their price was, and then what list price was...and list price is more expensive than our normal price. The screen shows normal customer price, commercial account price, and list price...list price is supposed to be the retail. All those prices listed that they gave you you can pick up fromt he same places they would and for 10-30% less than the garage will charge you. A big chunk of money garages make is in the price mark-up. I hate how shady the parts and repair business is but that's life. It would be like $500 cheaper to just buy your own parts and have the shop install it and pay them for just labor, but at $50-80/hour for labor I'd definitely get someone to do it for you and you'll end up paying them less than half that.
i get about a 40% discount but i thing garages get even a bigger discount.all repair type businesses do this ie appliance repair because the customer feels better buying something tangible. mechanics dont live in big houses like doctors so it is the doctors who are the dishonest ones

The mechanics aren't the money makers, it's the shop owners...I know 2 shop owners, one make 150k give or take per year after company expenses, the other makes over 400k per year after shop expenses.

I live in gainesville and would be willing to help along with clawhammer. I've done most of those repairs to my own car and they're not too difficult. Just give me a time frame cuz i leave next week after finals to go home till the 12th.

not to play devils advocate, but for less than that i am doing megan racing coilovers, 300z brakes front and rear with mastercylinder, five lug conversion with g35 rims and tires. last i checked i was around 1800. to bad you are not closer or would sell you every thing really resonable, but shipping would be rediculous(sp). i would definatly recomend doing in your self/ finding a friend.

I did stop tech slotted rotors and posi quiet pads for right around 300 bucks. upgraded or stock calipers arent too much at the junkyards. def would be doing coil overs and being done with it.

thats a decent drive, or I would make my way up there.....

btw post this on florida drift there are plenty of people in gainsville willing to help out for a beer or two. Plenty of them have used parts too and this job shouldnt be much move 1k even if you opted for coilovers.

westcovinanissan.com beats any oem price i've ever seen... at least by 50%
gumby74 wrote:If you are mechanically inclined in the least, with little more than a jack, jack stands and basic tool set (nothing special) you could replace everything yourself for several hundred dollars.Easily less than half of that estimate. Using aftermarket quality parts. Remember, dealership parts have quite a markup to them. But if you must use factory parts check with Performance Nissan (mynismo.com) or Courtesy Nissan as they tend to offer more realistic pricing on factory parts.

Thanks everyone! You have all been so helpful. Sorry it took so long to get back but I have been sick.

On my time frame, my attorney is holding my money hostage so as soon as I get that from them ( ) I will start ordering parts. Damn I hope that I can get hold of my money soon, or I'm going to go postal.

I can help some, I just can't keep my neck bent too much or get on my back under the car. I also have to remember not to try to do too much or I will pay with pain...

I'm on a stock 4-lug pattern... That seems to complicate what parts I can find. I have looked up the KYB AGX struts on Enjuku and found they have a great kit for 89-94 s13' at $399.99. Too bad I have a '96 s14 because the KYB AGX struts run $514.99 (still not bad, correct me if I am wrong) and the MR Lowering springs for $99.99. They also have Hawk pads for $69.99 front and $69.99 back. Unless someone has suggestions otherwise I think this is the setup I will go with.

I guess I will go with stock rotors, Calipers, tie rod and soft lines. Like I said, I am open to suggestions.

I will also check out floridadrift, I have never checked them out because I failed to realize they existed... LOL

Like I said I will happily accept any help with this, I want to be sure I do it correct and there are just some things I cannot do. Plus I am excited because I finally get to meet some local NICO members!

just as an FYI, there is also a local gainesville forum called intmo. just go to intmo.com and click on forums on the homepage. it's run by IMV films which is a local production company and there's a lot of helpful people on there (including myself )

Hi everyone I just wanted to post an update, I finally got my attorney to turn over my money for some parts. Damn I hate my lawyer. But anyway, I just ordered these parts from Enjuku Racing:

1 x KYB AGX Adjustable Strut Kit Nissan 240sx 95-98 (KYBAGXS14)1 x MR Lowering Springs Nissan 240sx 95-98 (MR-LS-NS14)1 x Hawk HPS Front Brake Pads 240sx 97-98 - All Models (HB235F.665)1 x Agency Power Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit for 240sx - Stock Fr (AP-Sxx-405) 1 x Powerslot Front Brake Rotors 240SX 95-98 4-Lug Only (503PS-LR)

So now all I need to locate is a LF outer tie rod and calipers... I think... Unless I am forgetting something. Can someone give me a good source for these stock parts? westcovinanissan.com sold the calipers in side sets... I just need the front calipers not the back. courtesyparts.com didn't have the calipers or the tie rod, at least not the stock tie rod.

I already ordered the rotors and I am 4 lug I don't think I can do that now. I'll call autozone and price the "stock" calipers but I have grown to not trust autozone parts in the past few years...

Now I need to find the Megan Racing Lowering Springs so I can finally put this damn thing back together and get back on the road! Enjuku is out, for an unknown amount of time...

Let me know if anyone knows a good source. (not ebay)

If you are hellbent on getting new springs frsport.com is a cheap place. If you aren't, then I have a pretty good set of Tein S-tech lowering springs that I could sell you.

LOLZ thank you!

If I had that kind of cash the thing would be on the road by now... I have found a guy that will put it all together for me for around $600... It will have to do because the only other person I can find still willing to help in this area (it's hot now) is a lawn mower repair man and he wants to charge me $75 an hour to do it... Oh and he would need 4 or 5 days and 8-10 hours of labor at $75... and he doesn't even like to work on cars, lawn mowers only... What a good "friend" he is...

UPDATE: So apparently the problem is the factory like enjuku said... EVERY supplier who carried these springs (everyone I have talked to at least, even on eBay) says it will be at least a month because the factory is not producing at this time because of a lack of good metal...

Anyone else have any ideas? I can't really spend more than the MR spring prices now as more bills have come up having to pay everyone to drive me around to doctors appointments. I can't even get to physical therapy....

Lev_96_240sx, I emailed you about the Tein S-tech lowering springs... Hit me up on that. I need to get this car up and running...

600! omg, i would do it for like 10 dollars an hour. Im currently upgrading to Z brakes, and this shiz is simple. I couldnt imagine dumping another 600 bucks for that.

LOL why is it that everyone that wants to help lives so damn far away?

Oh well, $600 was the best price I could get. I even offered to pay some cash on a local club if anyone needed extra money (which most of us do right now) but got no real interest.

Whatever though, I will spend the last of my money to get this done because I need the car running. It's cool at least I have enough to get this person to do it, it's been down for about half a year now between it and me.

80 bucks a peice!! Can you believe the mark-up on that? Maybe I'll wait a bit on my brakes.

Man I know... My friend (she has no clue what the rotors actually are/do on her car) just told me she had to have one replaced because it was warped... They charged her $300 for the stock rotor without installation... I told her she has to check with me on parts next time!

There is no way I would pay $80 for stock rotors, that would be insane... The powerslot rotors I ordered are less than that, especially if you search around.

With an air-powered rachet, a floor jack and some tools, I replaced ALL the rotors and pads on my Spec V under one hour.If I had to replace the calipers, that would add another hour, mainly to bleed the brakes.
