I've got a s13 sr20det running 10psi, s15 ball bearing turbo, with a HKS BOV. It surges through out any psi, and I need to know if that will damage my turbo at all if I run it like this for another three weeks (thats when I get enough money for the new intercooler kit and the new Synapse Synchronic BOV).

Help would be very much appreciated... Sorry, I don't know too much about compressor surge...

compressor surge is especially hard on journal bearing turbos, so in that respect it's a good thing you have an s15 turbo. just try to be nice to it, let boost bleed off before you shift. also take apart your hks bov and see if you can't find out what's up with it. if it's busted you've got nothing to lose and potentially something to gain.

but yeah you'll last 3 weeks, just be easy.

do you have the vacum sorce to your bov comming from the right place, and is the vacum line in good condition, if there is a hole or crack that would explain why its not gettin a sigle and why its not opening

Should be fine with a ball bearing. Been surging for over 3 years on my BB GTRS at 1.3 with no problems.

absolutly right, make sure it is getting its source from one of the intake manifold lines and not from something near the turbo. not trying to make u sound stupid or anything, but some people just dont know that there is a difference. the hks bov's are good quality bov and the chances are ur problem is fixable and it could easily save u the money, spend it on something else. hope this helps

Mine surges too, I'm not extremely worried about it, but it still bugs me. I can't wait to get a properly working bov

take your bov valve aprt for inspection...it isnt opening for some reason, if its used this is a common problem...if its new, you may not have the vacuum line right...compressor surge is never good...

I took mine apart and cut the spring in half to releive tension. It opens now and you can feel a decent amount of air come out, but it still surges a lot

typically the HKS SSQ does have a super stiff spring...Ive never owned an HKS but is the spring tension adjustable like on other aftermaket bovs?? it may need to be adjusted is all?? could be

The most common cause for an SSQV not working correctly is it not being hooked up right. It needs to have manifold vacuum inorder for it to function. You can't have it hooked up to any of the vac ports on the TB, it needs to go somewhere behind the TB so that it see's the differential in atmosphere changes (i.e. on boost or in vac...). I know the SR doesn't have many true vac ports, so you may have to "T" into something else.

i believe that the three to four ports available near the throttle body are as vacuum as they come. they all represent manifild pressure. when the car is under boost, they are a boost source, when its under vacuum, they are a vacuum source. thats exactly what u need to have hooked up to ur BOV.

the problem is thqat some people hook it up before that.sometimes, when people have there bov mounted on the hot side of there intercooler piping, they will just tee into the wastegate actuator line instead of running a vacuum source from the other side of the engine. that is obviously completly wrong because that line that goes to the wastegate actuator only has boost, no vacuum at all. and without the vacuum, the bov wont open. im not saying this is the problem, i just want to make sure its not as some people who are fairly new to turbos dont understand this too well.

what kind of a bov do u have justin. i know the blitz DD bov has two different springs that can be put inside. one is soft and one is stiff, for higher boost apps. u might want to look into that possibility.
