FINALLY.

I am 19 and have been looking for a job on and off since I was 16. I would usually stop during school time and pick up again towards the end of the semesters.

Anyway, filled out an application, went in for an interview, and got the job today. It's for a company called Vector Marketing, who is a branch off company of Cutco. Cutco is a nationwide seller of kitchen cutlery. I will be making appointments and meeting with potential buyers of the product.

I'm pretty stoked and looking forward to finally getting my life on it's way.

That's pretty sick, best of luck to you.My uncle was doing something in the same field for a bit and gave it up to be a freelance painter. He started getting really good but needed a decent/high paying job to support his family.

Congrats! Get that old Z fixed up...you can use it as a sales pitch! haha

Are you door to door or store sales (go into a locally owned True Value and sell to them)
Rmuth25 wrote:Cool, word of advice cut a penny with the scissors that will seal the deal everytime.
Haha, I have always heard this was actually a federal offense, so I had to look it up.

Turns out it isn't...HOWEVER...it apparently is illegal to rip a dollar in half.

Funny stuff.

I dont wanna be a jerk and rain on your parade. But this isnt a real job.

I was dating this girl about 7 years ago and she made me go with her to her interview. It was a group interview with like 20 people. I had my doubts about the company at first. I sat through 15 minutes of the opening presentation and i made her get up and leave. We left right in the middle.

Its basically a legal pyramid scam.

Check out some blogs and other sites on the internet.

Oh and when i went to the interview i was amazed at the freaks that were there. All ages, sizes, colored hairs. They were all freaks.

Good luck

(sorry if that was harsh)

Lol my friend was an english major - he really liked to write. I remember reading that article in the actual paper and it was long as hell.

It only wants you to sign up for the hawk so they know who's reading it. The Hawk was the student paper for Saint Joseph's Universtiy - my alma mater. Nothing sneaky. lol

IMO...it isn't a scheme if you know the whole deal.

If you are going into sales like that...then you know you have to sell to get a paycheck. I know that is weird...but having to do something for a paycheck still excists today, haha.

It isn't a CAREER and he isn't saying it is!!! It is a JOB!!! It brings in money to put into a gas tank, and maybe pay some rent to the 'rents...haha (ask them MAKE you do this, and put it into a savings you can't touch, that way when you are 22-23 and moving out, you have your house downpayment, NOT A CAR DOWNPAYMENT!!!) Haha

I had a friend sell books door to door for a couple summers in college. The first summer he didn't know what he was getting into and made decent money. The second summer he went in prepared and make like 10Gs because he worked his butt off, made himself see like 20 people a day, like 6 days a week, 12 hour days. But, in the end...$$$$$$

Wonderful article.I thought this thing was a scam from the moment I applied but, they have almost no information on me. Which is also very odd.

I know this won't get me far, but it will get me something to put on my work history, that's all I really need.

Thanks for the feedback guys, and LBC I will be saving a ton of it. Planning on working there either until the end of this semester or the end of this coming Spring semester. And then start looking for another job (if this one isn't working out) In that time I am hoping to be able to save half of every paycheck.

I hear skeptical things about this scheme, and it's customs. But all in all it seems like a good company.

Oh man, I just came to realize what this is lol....

They were handing these fliers out when I graduated High School (class of 04). My friend decided to call and he did get the job like nothing. It is true do not use the knife to cut the penny it does not work! hahaha

He quit after like a week because he didn't see any profit at all. The only way you actually get paid is if you sell the knives if you sell nothing you just wasted about 1 hour or how ever long it took you to demonstrate how sharp the knife is or why they should buy it.

If you are busy one week, you don't have to work, if you have nothing going on...get out there and sell and make cash!

You completely set all your own hours...if you want money, you go work and get money, if you want to be lazy, you don't get anything, simple as that!

Don't quit...you will get paid for the training...right?

And it isn't a "pyramid scheme" either...a pyramid scheme involves you paying money to the owner in hopes of people paying you money and getting nothing...in this case you are a "private business owner" and you have to buy "capital" (the set of knieves) to start your own "company". It is completely legit...and people DO make "comma checks" all the time, they just work hard to get it.

It is no different then starting a lawn service, you have to buy your own lawn mower to get started.

Earning money on this is just like sellers for my plastic's company, they get maybe 30k base pay, and bonus potential of 50k. You have to earn you cash in the real world, haha.

Curt man u gotta help him out. This isnt a good company. You shouldn't have to whore out your friends and family.

Also your definition of a pyramid scam is correct. I just used that term lightly. I ment it more as Cutco recruits so many people, and if each one of those people sells 1 item before they realize its bull s**t. Somebody up top is making coin.

As it has been said before go and get a job at a supermarket or something reliable. I have to go to work 5 days a week and sometimes 6. Hell if i didnt have to be there i would be getting drunk with Maxentropy (andy) and all you other clowns all day every day.

its a pyramid scheme because only the top of the pyramid makes any real money. They prey on young kids struggling to find jobs hoping that they will at least sell a set to their parents. I said before in this thread, my gf did this in high school and paid 120$ for her set of knives that they made her buy to do demonstrations. After she returned them for a refund, she received a 15 cent paycheck.

Thanks Ricky.

Okay, I have been thinking about this all day. I have first day of training (Curtieson, it is not paid ) tomorrow. I think what I will end up doing is. Buy the knives and try a bit to sell them. My mom's husband is part of a country club up here in Friendly Hills of Whittier. I'm sure if he can get some of his friends to buy some, then that's money in my pocket. If I can't get any farther than that. Then oh well, just return the knives.

Shortys408: You said she got a $.15 check, is that total for returning the knives, or was that on top of the refund.

I have a ton of questions for them because they say for every meeting you do, you get $16. I am going to MAKE them sign a contract stating this. Because I have had serious doubts about this since the day I've heard about it. I got a letter in the mail when I was a senior along with every other HS graduate I have talked to about it.

If I'm not completely satisfied with their answers tomorrow, then I'm out. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I guess I will qualify all my statements with this...I do not know of Cutco at all...I had a friend sell for Southwestern http://www.southwestern.com and that is what I am basing the "scheme" on. It is good if you work.
shortys408 wrote:its a pyramid scheme because only the top of the pyramid makes any real money.
*sigh*

Rob, again...give it a shot...you aren't going to be out anything major...not like you are putting down a $2k deposit for a vacation, haha. Host a big ol' party at the Country Club, sell 5 sets and see how much you liked it.

Also, I know they won't pay you just for meeting with people...you could say you met with 80 people on NICO today to sell knieves, they aren't going to give you a $1300 check for that...

The $16 is based on (most likely) a 1 in 5 success rate with an $80 commishion for a sale (or something similar).

Again...maybe...just maybe...it is the midwest mentality of getting out and doing something that makes me want to say shortys408's GF is just wasn't a go getter in HS...and wasn't self motivated. I think you will only learn from doing this. Give it a month...calculate how many hours you are actually working vs. $ and see if you are making $8+

If you aren't...go get a job on the grounds crew at the country club...make $13-$15 plus you get a super tan!

(Sorry, that got long)
