Few things on my Q that need to get fixed asap. I havent been on the highway for quite some time and last night was a rude awakening...

I think I may have found the "death sway" my car felt like it was being rocked back and forth left to right while I was going 70mph, wheel was straight, couldnt steer out of it...... is that a death sway?

I know my front stabilizer links have been "clunking" since I replaced them (went cheap on ebay parts, genuine nissan this time) but I dont thnk they could cause sway like this...!!!

So Im curious what exactly in these pictures needs to be replaced??

Im in canada, so I dont even know where to order parts from for the best deal.

Safety is a concern as my wife now drives this vehicle, so Id like to at the very least replace the front stabilizer links, and get some insight on what is causing the sway....

Any help appreciated

My comment has nothing to do with the swaying, but if safety is your concern, then I'd be looking at fixing the exhaust. From what I can see in your pictures, the exhaust is coming out under the truck, in front of the rear axle.If it's stationary for any length of time, and idling, then there's a real possibility that Carbon Monoxide will enter the cabin from underneath. I don't think you want to poison the wife.I'd fix that first.

Exhaust is fine, turns down under the rear axle, wind blows everything away. It got ripped off in october and will be replaced with a SS cat back come summer

For now... I need this sway fixed.

Could it be perhaps that I have a HEAVY load in the rear of the car?? Could that be causing the swaying??

I went with the ebay stabilizer links and they also sucked arse. Definetely go OEM, not worth orderring online, your local dealer wont be much more and you get them same day and from the actual dealership

Where abouts are you located?? They openned a huge nissan dealership here in Milton, and supposedly are getting 2 Skylines for there showroom

SO does anyone have info on what the swaying left to right is caused by? Id love to get that solved?Im thinking ot could be those control arms, or just the fact that I have so much weight in the back of my car and hopefully raising it back up would solve

Any advice??

I highly doubt it's the weight in the back. Chances are it's worn bushings. New trailing arm bushings solved my death sway.

its call the rear trailing arm (might be lower control arm) and more that likely is a dealer item unless you get just get the bushings from 4x4parts, also dealer may sell bushings too, look into it, your ride might be a lil stiffer, but would feel alot more planted on the highway

Can the bushings be installed yourself without a press??

And Im correct it that big bar going front to back in the 2nd pic?

So I would need 4 bushings in total?

Part number from nissan??

So these bushings, and these

Are those polyurethane bushing better handling and ride quality than stock??

I'll have to dig up some research but Id love any help and advice I can get here, I have a dealership local if something is better or more worthwhile from them

i think these would be them the ones you posted are for 2005 and uphttps://www.4x4parts.com/catal....htmlalso there are these

https://www.4x4parts.com/catal....html

not sure why it says 4 kits needed needed though, i would only think two would be needed, but you would have to double check its the right ones

going over bumps you might feel it more, but on a smooth surface it will offer better ride quality, and you should have to worry about them again i think fueler has these

oh ya s*** didnt even notice 05-09

So those 96-04 ones are only $50 each thats good. I dont get why it says 4 sets of 2 are needed either, I would think I would only need 2 of those kits

Guess we shall wait for someone to chime in with them

Search doesnt seem to be working

appears there is 4 control arms in the rear, 2 3 foot ones on the axle going forward, and an 8' upper control arm set. Ive never noticed/taken notice to the uppers so Ill get under my truck and check but they all use the same bushing??

So Id need 4 sets of the bushings ($200USD) and just one set of trailing arm bolts? are the bolts worth it to replace with those expensive ones?? I can get stainless steel grade 10's locally for pretty cheap, if they arent some weird crazy size that is

ANyone got a link to replacing these bushings?? Pics or something??

sorry can't help you there (in regards to bolts) but its probably cheaper than dealer but i would check any how and the other two lil trailing arms or upper control arm hold up the diff, was not sure if they had the same bushings, thought they were smaller diameter, but it makes sense

all i can say is i know bolts like to break on these vehicles, plus the bolts might be fused to the bushings, a trailing arm at dealer might be $100- 200 a pcs

ya they say 4 thats if youre gonna do every bar underneath the rear 2 lower and 2 upper I only did the lower rear control arms, so i used 2 sets.

the bushings are cheap but the labor if you pay to get them installed, is gonna be (relatively) high. I paid $200 labor to get mine pressed in and installed, and i supplied the replacement nissan bolts ($40) and the 2 sets of 4x4parts bushings.

It still came out being cheaper than OEM trailing arms with busings already pressed in... and the OEM ones are guaranteed to fail again while the 4x4parts are much more sturdier, i dont have to worry about that problem ever again!!

Well I guess I'll buy 2 sets and the bolts and see what I can do

Is pressing them in difficult?? Cant be done yourself without a press??

I know this thread is super old, but I'm curious to hear your experience. Did you try the DIY route or did you buy the parts and take them to a shop to be installed?
