I had my emissions test today. The vehicle passed just fine, but the test found a P0325 code stored in the computer. After looking it up in my service manual, it says it is a "P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)." It looks pretty easy to diagnose/repair, so I am not worried about that part of it.

The part I am stuck on is reading/resetting the codes. I searched my service manual and the forums and could not find any way to read the codes or clear them without a diagnostic tool I know people on the forum read/clear codes all the time so there has got to be a way to do it without the machine.

I promised that I searched and searched but could not find the process described anywhere. I hate to ask people to repeat themselves, but could someone give me the rundown on how to read the codes and clear them? Thanks in advance.

well you can rent the diagnostic tool for free at any auto parts chain I dont know if this works for R50 but on my Honda, disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes does the trick

Update:

I found two methods to clear the codes/read the codes. One involved pumping the gas pedal and the other involved cycling the driver's side door switch. Neither of them displayed codes and I have no clue if they cleared them.

I also looked for the knock sensor and couldn't locate it. It appears that it is under the intake manifold. Has anyone changed it? Can it be done without removing the manifold?

I have used the code readers in the past on other vehicles but they wouldn't erase the code so I haven't tried them yet.

yea most auto parts stores will rent them to you or at least come outside and clear them for you. when i had an o2 code, i found that disconnecting my battery for an hour didnt work, but leaving it disconnected overnight did the trick.

p.s. a buddy of mine had a scan tool and it did clear the code from mine when it first came up.

Wait a minute!

When did Idaho have emissions testing?! I haven't lived there in over a decade, but I'm utterly shocked to hear that.

Or is just all the "foreigners" who moved to Boise that got tired of the smog in the valley during winter?

It's only in Ada County (Boise). I moved here in 1992 and have had to do it since I came here.
