Well, as of last night, TWO of my female friends have now developed brain tumors. Interestingly enough, they both have gotten the same kind of tumor. Its a tumor that grows between the skull and the brain's membrane. It turns out its not THAT horrible, as one of them has allready had surgery and its been several years of completely normal life for her, no complications or further tumors. However, my friend Blair who we just found out had one this morning after spending the whole night with her in the ER, seems to have a larger one. My roommate's mom is CEO of a major Houston hospital, so they are flying down there probably as I type this. Chances are decent she'll be having brain surgery within 24-48 hours as its grown to the point of causing actual physical problems, including a heart condition. They've named the tumor, it is Mortimer...Mortimer is 17mm across and evidently pressing into poor Blair's brain. As an aside, if any of ya'll are into online comics, Blair does this one: http://starcrossd.net/ Hopefully by tomorrow she'll have an MRI, another CT scan, and have seen a good neurosurgeon and we'll know more. Also, dont be my friend...I'll give you tumors

Good news! the f***'s here in Denton missread the chart or somehow got it switched and she actually does NOT have a brain tumor. However, now they think she might have some kind of epilepsy? The story just keeps going on...at least the MRI shows that she's pretty much a-ok. I'm pretty happy about it

How do you mistake brain tissue for a 1.7 cm tumor? They scared the bejeezus out of a whole bunch of people I'm sure!

Anyway, I'm glad it's not a tumor, hopefully whatever's wrong isn't serious!Oh, and the art of that comic reminds me a lot of Max Payne...

And that's why doctors cost so damn much for the rest of us. f*** emotional pain and anguish, just be glad there's no damn tumor.

I dunno about all that...

if they go unpunished, what if they "make a mistake" in a by pass surgery or prescribe the wrong medicine....

Malpractice suits are here to protect us from incompetence.

I agree, but everyone makes mistakes occasionally... EVERYONE. As long as no one is really hurt, as in this case and many others where people may have been emotionally troubled, but not actually hurt in any way, there should be no grounds for a malpractice suit. If you order a part for your car, and the company sends you the wrong part, it sucks, and they take it back and send you the right part, but there is no lawsuit for the emotional trauma which you endured by having to wait a little longer.

Well, his mom is CEO of the Diagnostic Imaging Center of Houston...or something along those lines. I dont know what hospitals she's been to, but I think she's seen several doctors in the last two days. The lastest news is that its most likely a form of epilepsy. When Patrick gets back in town I'll find out more about it. I'm just glad she doesn't have a brain tumor, evidently it was a calcium deposit or something.

Thats why they did the MRI before any operating They always double check that kind of thing...it WOULD be bad to cut her skull open and go "oh ****, thats just a chunk o' bone"
