i was driving an 04 quest! woo hoo! its been years since i last street raced, but i could not resist this time. i was driving a problem car with an intermitant stumble(according to the customer). i was unable to duplicate the concern so the cust said just keep it for a while to see if it happens. so i drive it to and from work every day. i was on the way to work this morning when i was stopped at a stop sign behind malcolm the parts guy. he was driving his 93 integra thats "all tricked out". yeah, it has an intake. so he is behind my apprentice technician whos driving a 94 mazda 626 v6. he brake torques it and launches pretty hard with a little chirp. as soon as malcolm sees this he goes for it too. by now my boy in the mazda is gone but i go anyways. well before we cross the street i realize im already gaining on the teg so i move over a little. yup im going right by him. i look over and see him franticly shifting gears and his car is making that high pitched honda noise(not a bad thing at all). me im chillen. i could have been playing with the radio or talking on my cell phone. i just had my foot on the floor and i was wasting him. ok well long story short it was less than 1/8 of a mile long road and i smoked him real bad. i even took the corner at the end pretty hard for a quest and caught up with the mazda. so i ask him whats up with that slow teg. he said he wasnt trying, but at like a million rpm i think he was. so i consoled him by saying it was my "race-van". yeah, it even had a baby seat in the back. by the way, it is not common practice for me to street race, especially in customers cars.

your buddy needs to learn how to drive that teg. If it's a 5 speed it should be capable of mid/hi 15's. My buddy ran a 15.6 in his 91 teg B18A (non-vtec) with just a short ram intake.

Gotta hand it to the VQ35s, they'll hand it to a honda :)

I still cant believe they're making a VQ40DET for the new frontier, i want one so bad.

He just said he doesn't do it all the time, jeez...

It's a minivan for crying out loud, I'm sure he wasn't endangering any lives accelerating for a 1/8 of a mile.

That damn 04 quest is a bad machine. 240hp WTF why do you need that much power from a minivan? Not sayin' I wouldn't race one against some ricers with a bunch of friends in it all wearing helmets. :D

I....uh....heard about two guys at a ford dealership racing cusotmers cars at the stoplight near the dealership. One was a state trooper Crown Vic, and the other a Cobra Mustang. Big rolling crowds of white tire smoke from both at the light......

Chris: if that were my car you were doing this with, trust me, you'd be looking for another job. Consider yourself blessed you weren't caught, my friend. That was pretty dang irresponsible

yes, no doubt if i were on the flip side of the coin i would feel the same way. thats why i mentioned that this is not something i have ever done before. i think my willingness to talk and even joke about things i know i should not have done gives the impression that i am condoning such things. i am certainly not doing that. i guess i should have been more emphatic about that to begin with to clear the whole thing up. or maybe i should hide my past sins and just try harder in the future...hmmmnope, im a fallen creature as is everyone else. trying harder would not get me anywhere. in fact its by Gods grace alone that i have even gotten this far. we super spritual guys(j/k) screw up too. and i will admit it.

Im sure this guys feels bad enough without having everyone bash on him for getting on it in a customer car. Cant say i blame him tho. Its the only way a tech gets to drive new cars without being hassled by the sales dept.

My .02

Thanks for the post man and the info and the new Quest:ylsuper

thank you. he is right though. once a car has been bought, we need to lay off of 'em. i will continue to get my driving impressions from the unsold cars. :)

I'm sure ("woo hoo") is an expression of remorse. C'mon, street racing in a customer's car without his knowledge is bad on several levels. And that wiped out the joking aspect for me when I read it. Sorry.
