Hell yeah man, works like a charm. Just use an extra 1/2 cup of detergent and the inside of the dishwasher will be spotless afterwards as well.

I wouldn't even dare try if it was an iron block (CA18)

I don't see a problem with doing iron blocks in particular, just wipe them down with an oily rag when you get done. My fear would be residual detergents contaminating your oil on start up. If it were me, I'd still get it hot tanked at a machine shop afterward, but this is good to make it look new again (the solvents at the shop I go to aren't very strong I guess. My E16 block was clean when I got it, but it still looked nasty)

Btw, we don't have them in our CAs, but do you think that would damage bearings? Like the jackshaft bearings in an E16 or cam bearings?

Nope, pressure wash it afterwards for an extra rinse and then spray all surfaces down with wd40 or pb blaster on all surfaces. Helps to let it sit in the sun for a little while too

the problem is the rust that you'll get INSIDE the block... I just worked on a mild steel bracket yesterday... after some cutting and grinding, I cooled it with some water... in just a few hours, there was surface rust on it!

if I got a pristine CA block, I wouldn't want it anywhere near a dish washer!

And then you plug in your air compressor and attach thy air nozzle, then witchcraft and unicorn horns, then dryness occurs... strange

Not if you don't have an air-water seperator in the line. ;)

I think the important concern is, what are you doing helping an SR20 owner? BOO THIS MAN!

I see the SR is not the only cylinder getting bored out, nice! The judges say "acceptable compromise!"

after dishwasher just mix 1 part molasses (sugar) with 10 litres of water leave block in there for a couple of weeks and all the rust within should be gone. Pressure wash later and hot tank for final clean aftr all rust is gone.
