You can do a leak-down test on it even if the motor isn't installed/running. That way you can tell the condition of the rings and valve seating. Otherwise, turn the crank with a wrench and make sure it isn't binding or anything.

Can't do a compression test unless you're able to run the starter. It can be done too, but a leak down will tell you more anyways.

ok sorry guys for all these wierd questions im asking. i have a couple more questions tho. amm i bought the rb25 motor and the guy who i bought it from he said he checked everything on it. and said it was fine so i guess it looks like he took apart the head and instead of a head gasket he put some kind of rubber silicone thing??? im not sure and it looks like he put that everywhere where theres gaskets like where the headers and turbo meet and at the head and also valve cover and pretty much everywhere. so i was wondering if anybody would know what the heck??? meaning if thats ok or not???? so please help me???

no its not ok. If he just used silicone to seal the head to the block that will leak probably the first time you try to start it. Buy a gasket kit and redo all the gaskets.

First off, Time for someone to read up. No i'm not trying to be a ******* but reading pays off so much in our community. You will learn how the do's and don't of RB's or really motors period. Just because he checked everything doesn't mean his word is the truth. And if he used silcone where gaskets are, you are in trouble. Because some of these gaskets see alot of pressure and like someone said earlier soon as you start the motor i wont be suprised if the silcone blows out. So if i were you i would read up all you can, Get a FSM, and do a maintenance tune up on it. Re-do all the gaskets he supposedly did and just take the head off the block and inspect the both of them. Sounds to me he is Jipping you of yoru money because you sound a lil lost in the world of motors. But like i said dont take offense to what i just said. See it more so as i'm trying to help you from putting your money into someone else's ****TER(aka RB gone bad) lol.
