check out my new 240sx. i know the body is a bit nasty and it needs some love, there arent too many 240s available in my area, so when this one came around i went for it..im curious what your take on the engine? i wonder if youll notice things my untrained eye has missed, dont think im too naive, i see a car that needs lots of tlc, but im hoping i bought a nice new project car..also id appreciate any tuning adivce as far as ecu and the next few mods..dont flame me too hard, im new but that doesnt give me the right to be stupid deal? thanks, heres the link w/ the car ad..

Well since those pics didn't show much cant really help ya out. I know its a blacktop... Any noise when starting or driving. Did you have a shop check out the car b4 you purchased? Oh ya unless you plan on drifting alot get a vlsd or an open diff, that welded might get kinda annoying.

helical ftw.

what are you plans with the car? as in what goals do you want to achieve with it? the car may look kind of rough, but overall it looks good. may i ask why he put hood pins in? did he strip out the underhood structure?

Only thing I would worry about is using the lower radiator hose as the top radiator hose. Nothing wrong with it...I just see it kinda twisted and the pressure just might pop it or mess up the flow.

no i havent driven it yet, the car is mine i just havent taken delivery yet. i hope to get it by sunday.. i dont really mind the gutted/track look of the car, i just want to add a little quality that seems to be missing so far..

i know the welded dif is gonna be interesting, its not a daily driver, this thing is pure project car, so im not too worried about it yet. is high speed driving (100mph+)considered unsafe w/ welded dif unless i expect to get sideways? i guess i mean more unsafe than a car w/o welded dif?

im not too sure exactly what i want from it yet, i didnt get a 240 for the 'drift' aspect, i like the cheap-ish turbo platform.. can i tune the suspension/ lsd to perform at auto-x and drift? id think not...oh yeah and drag? can i get a well rounded tune?? i guess its pretty drift ready w/ the welded diff, maybe ill just go that way w/ the car..

as far as motor tuning goes, first i think im gonna do some of the things that dont really net hp, but will help me breathe easier when i decide to rev it hard..koyo rad, injectors, bigger intercooler, flexalite (sp?) fans, oil cooler?, it currently has no exhaust from the rear axle back, i found a hks on ebay for about 500 i dont know if thats the best route...i think id like to move the battery and delete what i can for a clean engine compartment. besides those few initial mods im unsure exzactly where to take the sr yet...oh, what about ecu tune or piggy back apexi or??

the exterior will either be treated w/ a CF hood, and NON-rice aftermarket bumper, or just go w/ the silvia front.. ive actually been going against my personal taste and have been thinking about some s13 rear/ s15 front madness but chances are ill come to my senses before i spend money on any skyline conversions...

whells are a whole nother matter that i should probably leave out of the sr forum but i know id like something clean, and maybe track-inspired..

thanks for the replies so far, i hope to be around here for awhile..

You don't need a koyo to rev peace of mind sure. I'm still rockin my ka on my sr w/ fmic. No probs at all. As far as the hks if you feel like spending 500 on an exhaust go for it. I was going to do the same thing then my local shop told me that the Megan was going for half the price and sounded just fine. So i got that and never looked back.

As far as the bigger ic and injectors, unless you are going to throw a bigger turbo and running more than 300hp (guessing need to actually measure the ic to see about what it is rated to) you should be fine with what you have. And the ecu tune again need to know what your goals are with the car if its 300 or less I'd say a ecu tune. More than that i would get a stand alone system but im just an You don't need a koyo to rev peace of mind sure. I'm still rockin my ka on my sr w/ fmic. No probs at all. going straight with a welded diff is not too bad.... taking a corner however is a totally different world.... can you say annoying As for drag racing and drift/auto x... you need soft suspension for drag racing and stiff for drift / auto x ... I dont see anything wrong with your new car I like it... its a great platform and you already have a headstart..... Not to mention you Az bastards have no smog regulations

this car will never really see too much 1/4 mile track time.. i just want to pull on my friends cars...how could i set-up for drift and auto-x? coilovers w/ some wildly differrent settings? that might be a question for somewhere other than the sr forum..

morpf mentioned megan racing? i thought they were kinda frowned upon? id rather spend the dough and have nice parts but a muffler is muffler i guess as long as its not ****... are their cheaper prices the real deal?

as far as hp figures id like to say less than 300whp but you never know..id like this to be a build that comes together over time so a little here, a little there...you know the drill.. so what tune? do i send the ecu or just desolder?

a turbo upgrade (to anything huge or $$$) is a long way away but i think if i hit all the boltons i can get my hands on(intake/exhaust manifolds, injectors, larger intercooler, exhaust,) to work here then ill see how hungry i am for more power.. does that put me over or under 300hp? answer that and ill know possibly if i want an ecu or piggyback..

are there mods/problems specific to the 98 180sx blacktop? they are all really similar i know, mine has a different turbo than the older sr's but makes the same power..right?

Megan Racing is a good company. Some people like to ***** but every thing that i have used or seen people use have not had any complaints. As far as the exhaust goes i can take some video of the sound for ya if you want but thats gonna have to be tommorow. The quality is great i would not put ****ty parts on my car.

If you are going to drive the car around just w8 on installing new injectors and fmic b/c that will kill some of the preformance. Larger Fmic will create more lag.Larger injectors will need a retune, or Safc to compensate for the larger injectors. If its going to be under the knife for a while then go ahead and start pulling parts and instaling new ones.

What kind of turbo are you planning on running??? If you are going to stick with a t flange turbo then you can leave the stock manifold. Unless you want the "bling" factor of a top mount. If you are going to use the socker then get it ceramic coated. Not sure that i have the terminology right on that. There have been a few posts about coating the exhaust manifold to reduce heat output. Im sure another one of our members will be all to happy to correct me.

Problems for the blacktop....um not that i can think of. I've had one for 3 years no problems...till my little brother got ahold of it. As far as your turbo its probally a t25 but you are going to have to check what is printed on the turbo to be sure.

what about the exhaust wrap material instead of ceramic coating? meagn stuff isnt so bad huh? ill have to check out their stuff i know its some of the cheaper quality(?) products available.

im so excited to mod this thing and it hasnt even arrived yet. i have another project car and the 240 is SOO much cheaper to modify its a little bit insane. i bought this 240 for roughly the same price as it would be to turbo my audi (coupe quattro 20v). so my choice was turbo the audi w/ that money or start a new project....the parts/performance to dollar difference is insane between my two cars. efi for audi hybrid turbos is about $2,500. thats just harness and ecu stuff, laptop tuning. $2,500 just for efi? i cant afford that, and thats just a sample of the crazy pricetags...

so its been in the driveway, now w/ snow on it. ive gotten to drive it a bit and feels strong although ive got nothing to compare it to. The clutch is toast so im working on getting one to put in.. ive begun sanding the body, im afrad to rip off the bumpers and fenders yet, i still have it outside. i guess the FLAPS can recommend a good reconditioning product for the black window/ door trims. im rambling..

i took some pictures of the motor, a few wires that i found...

Wow this thread has helped me so much!! Ive been looking forever to find a black//white two tone S13. Im debating the color of my car and its white right now and i wanted to do the black/white two tone like that but i never seen a car with it to judge.. Sorry to invade your thread there.. Its looks like you have a decent car to work off of there. Its nice to buy an S13 with the swap already. As for your thoughts on the front end go with the jdm S13 front end.. Looks sweet exspecially at night. and it sets it apart from other 240s.. My old car.. Its white also so it might help you out on your judgement..http://i31.photobucket.com/alb...1.jpg
