No dead pedal!

I can't believe that Infiniti overlooked such an important item that would cost nothing to include. I find myself setting my seat too far forward to be able to brace my left foot against the floorpan, leaving my right leg cranked, and being too close to the steering wheel.

I gotta figure out some way to fabicate one, even if I end up with a simple carpeted 2x4 screwed into the firewall.

P.S. Posted here because for some reason I can't activate the "Reply" function in the F50 thread.

There are plenty of aluminum racing dead pedals from companies like OMP that include brackets. Or you could try getting one from the Y33 and see if you can make that fit. That's what I'd do.

Thanks for the tip.Do you by chance happen to have a link for OMP or anyone else that makes dead pedals? I'd like to pursue that. The idea of fabricating one doesn't appeal to me. I don't care much for jury-rigged stuff in a nice car.

About halfway down the page.

If you want more OEM look though, I'd go for a Y33 one, it's probably a close fit to begin with.

Thanks Falkdesigns.I like #OA/1064, but an even more "stock" looking, and less obsvious one would be better yet.

Not familiar with the Y33 arrangement. My '94 Q45t had it's dead pedal integrated with the floor pan, or at least under the carpeting.Do you know how the Y33 is configured? Can it be added, perhaps on top of the carpet without creating wrinkles in it? Or is it mounted under the carpet, with the carpet contoured around it? I wouldn't want to have to re-carpet, or to have it look hokey. The Q is too nice of a car for jury-rigging.

My daughter-in-law has a Y33, but I seldom see her, and it's a hassle to find her home to visit. She works, and is frequently away from home doing things. No other Y33s that I know of, and I don't think I'd want to hang around the Infiniti dealer waiting until one showed up for service.

Appreciate any further tips you can give.Maybe other F50 owners would too.

Thanks.

FY33, Y34 and F50 floorpans are very similar.

That's encouraging. I'll still have to find a Y33 to see exactly how it's configured and trimmed. It would be great if it was a simple and inexpensive fix.

I'll have to go look, but I think the FY33 dead pedal is molded into the floor pan like the G50.

This makes the addition of a clutch for a manual problematic in the G50 especially.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. I suspect I'll have to add an aftermarket dead pedal. Might not look too good, but at least I'll have somewhere to rest my left foot in spirited driving.

Anyone else have more insight?

Depending on your color interior, I'd try and find a black one so it just sorta blends in.

Unfortunately, my interior is light tan. I may need to get a gold one. Then again, maybe you're right, Black may be less obvious and intrusive.

Hmmm, I gotta think about that.

I did figure out a less painful way to install it. Instead of having to drill holes in the floorpan, then paint over the raw steel, and seal the bolt holes around the mounting bolts, I'm gonna try something. I'm replacing the carpeted floor mats in the car, as they're a little dirty. I'm going to glue a sheet of .050 aluminum approximately 9" high by 15" wide on the underside of the front (vertical) face of the old floor mat, then fasten the new dead pedal through the floor mat into the aluminum backing sheet. The aluminum sheet should hold the dead pedal in place, if I fit it correctly, and eliminate the need to punch holes in my carpet and drill holes in the floor pan. That will be my prototype. If it works okay, I can them repeat the process on the new flor mat.
