I got new tires put on today (245 75r16 BFG AT's ) and we discovered that vehicle on ground, lug nuts tightened, I can grab the top and bottom of either front tire, push pack and forth, and feel play somewhere in the front axle/suspension area.

I'm thinking this condition probably existed even before I got new tires and that I'm just noticing it now. Any idea as to what this could be? Wheel bearings? Ball joints? Suspension linkages?

It's a 99.5 QX4 with 130,000 miles.

That's a classic wheel bearing symptom, except that the test is done withthe wheel off the ground. Jack it up and repeat the exercise. You may well be able to see where the problem is.
