I had a 95 240SX SE with high miles(178k) for about 2 months. When I had the car everything worked fine. I couldn't afford the engine swap I wanted so I sold it. The guy who bought it took a bus with his girlfriend from NY to TN to get the car. He drove the car home and it ran great all the way. When he got back his girlfriends car's battary was dead so he gave her a boost. He went to work that night and the next morning came out and the car would not start. It turns out the fuel pump went out. He ordered a oem from nissan. put it on and the car ran great, but the power steering made a noise. He Nissan guy added some fluid and it sounded fine he said. The next day it done it again so he added it himself this time and the fluid ran straight to the ground. He now is having to buy a new power steering pump.

I really feel bad, but when I had the car it ran fine. Should I feel bad? I really hate that this happened, but it is not my fault. Just thought I would tell someone and get your views on it.

It never hurts to feel bad for your fellow man. You shouldn't feel too bad about it though because as far as you knew the car was doing great and this guy knew he was buying a car with extremely high miles. Stuff happens. Would I feel bad enough to give him any money back? NO! I've had this happen to me before on several occasions. One particular one was a RX-7. The guy had 2 mechanics and Mazda check the car out. Plus I'm a mechanic and I checked it out. 3 days after the guy bought it his kid blew the motor. It happens. That is just part of buying a used vehicle.

Well how old is this guy you sold it to? Is this like his first car or something? Maybe its his 1st REAL car even and hes just been playin a little too rough with the old girl. Its pretty easy to blow a power steerin pump if your not careful especially if its an old one. I wouldn't feel too bad if the car was really ok when you had it. What i'd do is offer the name of a reliable mechanic for it, maybe the one you had. Private sales are AS IS. Good luck.

The guy I sold it to is in his mid 20's I think and he had a 91 240 hatch , but totaled it. Anyway I don't feel bad anymore just pissed off. I was talking to one of my friends today and he said he seen the guy right before he got on the interstate to head home. They were both stopped at a red light and the guy was reving on him(My friend drive's an SUV) then when it turned green the guy roasted the tires and drove like a bat out of hell all the way up the on ramp. The on ramp is a half circle and he could hear the tires slipping. So now I am just really pissed off at this guy for emailing me acting like a pu$$y I mean baby. I drove the car with no major probs the entire time I had it.

I have a 93 RX7 R1 now, but I am going to buy an S13 coupe for a DD later this month.

That sucks, but don't feel too bad. It doesn't seem like it was your fault. Much worse things could go wrong too. Not to mention you have to kinda expect things to be a little spotty on a car with 170,000 miles.
