I cant even describe how happy I am!!! I actually backed the car today out of the garage under her own power, let it idle in my driveway for a bit, and then drove it around my neighborhood! No boost yet, just cruising on the AEM base map (which I must say, is working out VERY nicely)-- and oh man, it was beautiful. 9 months this car has been sitting in the garage, every pic you guys have seen of it has been under the harsh glow of flourescent and halogen work lights... today, she saw a little sun

Pics:

In the driveway II

It was really fun to cruise around with only 1 fender, no bumper, no hood, no real exhaust (downpipe only). Got a LOT of funny looks from people walking around and driving by hahaha. The engine is overheating so I'll have to fix that, but no real biggie. Next step is to take it to the muffler shop to finish up the downpipe and dump tube, then its DYNO CITY!!!

Man... congratulations. I know what youve gone through to get your car running.

If you lived near by me I would buy you a free dinner or a free 6 pack or both. That mustve been hillarious driving around like that. lol.

any speculations as to why its overheating?

Once again, congratulations!

Thanks man! Heh everyone else here on the KA-T board knows what Ive gone through to get this car where it is. Really I love all you guys, thanks so much for all the help, condolances, congratulations, pity, etc each step along the way. It sounds silly, but you guys were a HUGE part in why I was able to stay calm and keep focused on this car. THANK YOU!! <3 <3 haha

As far as the coolant leak, yeah I figure its either a bad thermo (which I didnt replace in the build for some reason), or just air pockets that still need to be bled out. No biggie.

he's running an AEM EMS, so he most likely lost the MassAirFlowSensor, in favor of a ManifoldAbsolutePressureSensor setup.

congrats on bein able to run it, now get some miles and onto the dyno:).

as for the coolant, try this thing called spill free(contains a funnel that connects to the radiator cap and lets all the bubbles out, Matco tools sells it, not sure about other places), it'll take all yer air bubbles out of the radiator, much easier than usin the plug on the intake runner.

How the heck does that thing work? It's on ebay if anyone wants it.

Anyway, congrats FIZNAT!!! Why not take the other fender out too? Then go around town racing in your ultimate "weight reduced" 240, hahaha. I'm sure the cops would love that

Damn good job man! The last time I we chatted, you were still gathering your pistons and turbo parts How many pounds of boost are you running? That thing's gonna have trouble keeping traction!

Congrats on the start up. i feel ya cuz i was in ur shoes about two weeks ago. I think i was more happy to see my car idle, than hit boost. nonetheless, keep up the good work and we need those dyno sheets asap.

THANKS EVERYONE!!! I ran the car again today... man I was getting FOUL looks from my neighbors. I had the car running a total of probably over an hour, burping the coolant system and running the engine through some heat cycles. Open downpipe was enough to get one of my neighbors to knock on my door and make sure that car wouldnt "always be like that because [they] get to bed early." hahaha

No boost just yet, the car is on just the base map which isnt setup up for any boost just yet. Once I get the exhaust finished up I'll see what I can do about getting a street tune, then the dyno.

I actually DID get one of those no spill things, per Ivan's advice. This thing is AWESOME and I really reccomend it to anyone who has to do this job. Basically it fits to the top of the radiator where the cap normally goes and seals up tight, then you fill the funnel up with coolant and never let it get empty. This way, air is never sucked into the system, it just sucks in more coolant. Air gets burped up towards the top as the engine runs and you squeeze hoses etc.. There is a little stopper also that you use to plug up the system once the coolant starts to get too hot. 4 cycles of this and the system is now COMPLETELY free of air as far as I can tell.

Thanks again guys, more news to come!!
