My coworker had a convertible S600 coupe and he ran over a pothole hence had to get a new rim ($800) and a tire ($400) so he told me to drive his S600 and drop it off at the dealership...

All I can say is that twin-turbo intercooled V12 is (493 horsepower 590 lbs-ft of torque)..... amazing.

It had a smooth acceleration when driven lightly but even a slight push on the throttle pushed you back into the seat. I was too scared to floor it tho... The farthest I went was about more than 1/2 and the "push-me-back" feel was so great.

Everywhere I drove I turned heads because I look like Im 16 and Im driving a convertible S600 (Im 20) hahaha. It felt so great to drive a fast luxury. No wonder people get so pay so much money to get one of those...

i wasnt saying you didnt drive it, just that you stated the wrong model. the S600 was available as a coupe until 98 or so. it was never a convertible.

since you said it was the twin turbo v12, and a convertible, the only thing it could be is a SL600, 2004 MY.

the sl600 is about $130,000 give or take depending on the options.

i never got to drive the new SL65 AMG.

that car is absolutely insane. if i ever win the lottery, im showing up at white plains MeBe and ordering one.

6.0L twin turbo V12. 604hp, 738 ft/lbs $180,000 base.

its one thing having a modded car with those figures, having those stats from the factory is something else entirely.

Mercs are for old people and yuppies. Kinda sad when the only stick you can get is in the hair dressers model (SLK) Although the Carllsen SL55 is pretty bad a$$, but still a big, heavy, toy for Clarkson and Grandpa...

But I wouldn't say no if someone threw me the keys mind you;)

there overpriced. you would think that for the price tag, they would work out the electrical gremlins.

at least they look good.

Hmm won't be too long till one of them show up to be valeted.Let you know how they handle in a parking garage :) too bad it can't get out of 1st gear. Not enough space unless i drift around the turn. Not that I have done this with my 240 or anything.Honestly those tire marks were already there(from previous days)

For $130k its a terrible performance value, but its priced right for all the luxury, verve, and panache. An equal amount of flash can be had in a C5 or C6 convertible. But of course the two cars are worlds apart in luxury, fit, and finish.

Maserati, anyone?

I was thinking more along the lines of twin turbo awd Porsche 911 Turbo(996), with money left over for a 9 second literbike.

My uncle has an SL55, and what makes it worth over 100k is that it's in a class of it's own. The problem with Mercedes' is that the extended quality of their fit and finish is really crappy. When I drove in the SL55 the interior was decent, but nowhere near that of a Lexus, for example.

What really impressed me about that car was how nimble it was for it's weight. And it stops fast, too, thanks to what look like 8 piston calipers up front. Ridiculous.
