I drove 20 miles with no clutch, interesting to say the least.

i just realized this isnt KAT related, but I love this place so dont move it.

The clutch pedal gave out on me yesterday right when I got to work about 20 miles from home. I pulled up to park and the pedal when straight to the floor. It had like an inch of hydrolic (sp?) pressure at the end of the pedal play and Im like, okay lets save that one for later. I wait till around 2pm so there is not traffic and decide to take the car home. This is all to not have to pay for a tow truck, or at least to get to within 7 miles of home so its free.

I press the clutch jam it in 1st gear, the pedal is all the way down at this point. Slip my foot under pull it out and the car lurches and takes off. So I drive like 4 blocks waiting from a distance on red lights untill it turns green and luckily catch the green light on the freeway entrance. Thank god the transmission is in good condition and dry shift like nobodies business so the freeway drive was cool.

Get to the exit now only 1 mile from my house. Chill rollying slowly on top of the offramp untill green, meanwhile people hating my from behind. I catch the green and get to the next street which was red, Put my hand on the horn, slow down, and take a right turn on the light. ran a bunch of stop signs on side streets and a hugh red light a block from my house and Im in front of my house, VICTORY. All with only pressing the clutch once in 20 miles of driving.

I figure im right there so I press the clutch to back up into my driveway and it makes a weird clunk and the car stalls. I put the car in reverse and using the starter crank my way into the driveway, which works like a charm. It actully even started and got going so if you ever need to get going with no clutch, jsut put it in gear, crank, and gas. I park the car and look under it too see my slave cylinder hanging from the clutch line and the bolts outside of my driveway on the ground. Looks like somebody forgot to tighten the bolts I was so glad I hadnt clutched even once on the way home.

I had already ordered a new Master/Slave and clutch line to change out in the past but never got around to so I was like, ehh the slave is already off might aswell do it now. While there I removed the Damper system which made bleeding the clutch a 2 minutes affair, so anyone that hasnt done it should, makes for a real nice clutch feel aswell. I dont think I have driven a day without fixing, modding, cursing something on this car. Moral of the story, tighten all your bolts yourself.

CLIFFS:

Clutch gave out, drove 20 miles with only pressing clutch once. Arrived home pressed clutch one more time and all hell broke loose. In the end my slave cylinder wasnt properly mounted and fell off. Bypassed damper system while fixing car and I recommend you do to.

haha, thats awesome. So who forgot to tighten the bolts? People complain because I take so long working on my car, but I take my time so I don't forget anything like that. one time my GF rushed me when i was replacing my water pump, i forgot to tighten the bolts holding the clutch fan on. lord knows what would have happened if that hade come loose.

i kind of have a similar story where i couldnt use the clutch. i was playing basketball with some friends at a court about 5 miles from my house and while playing i sprained my left ankle pretty bad. it hurt to even rest my foot on the clutch pedal let alone press it. so i think that i used my gas foot to start the car off in first letting it out real slow and didnt use the clutch for changing gears. sucked really bad and blew a bunch of stop signs. wasnt like it was one road home either, a bunch of backroads always stopping for another turn. sucked

Yeah man, I drove more than 200 miles with no clutch on my way back from florida... just to get out of virgina (god I hate that state now) I got pulled over doing ~100mph (and didnt get a ticket, got yelled at for a radar detector that wasnt plugged in, yelled at for tint, exhaust, and general "your an out of state guy" butt reaming). No auto parts stores had the part (not even pep boys) so said "F it" and drove to an autozone in maryland or something. gotta love those lifetime warranties, although I finally bought factory nissan master and slave cylinders because ive been through 3 masters and about 11 slaves of autozone junk.

Yeah that reminds me of what happened to me, I was driving home from school and went to press the clutch, oh wait, mine worked. You know why? Because I tightened the bolts on my slave when I put it in =)

Watch it come off at this autocross just because I said that.

Wtf I got a ticket in VA for going 82mph in a 60. I was out of state they loved my ran his hand down the side of my car. Anywayz I drove 36miles with no clutch. One of my springs was broke and my car wouldn't go slipped so bad.I got it to stop one time sitting at stop sing and clutch pushed in all the way and my car just launched out in front of a semi I cut my wheel and locked brakes he missed me somehow. had 7 miles of 2lane road then had to merge on the interstate where i had to run off the road so i didn't get rearended then entered my town and barely made into the mechanic shop.

i know someone that put in a clutch disc in backwards. it was interesting to say the least. and this was on top of not torquing down the flywheel bolts.
