i dont know why it dies. HELP

after i get off the freeway, or a long drive with out stopping my car dies as it returns to idle. i have to put it in gear and let off the clutch to keep it from cutting off. if i let die when i start it it turns over for a little while like its flooded, then it starts......and my check engine light is on. do u guys know what it could be. i have a 95 5speed base model. thanks for looking and ur help.

Check the EGR first. the hose connecting the two components almost always breaks. Although this has happened to me 3 times and mine only died sometimes

It really sounds like the EGR, i would be surprised if it were the IACV. I plugged mine with a nickle on the intake manifold side. then i made a steel plate/plug to block the intake manifold off (not necessary).

Until you can test/plug it man up and learn to heel toe just to keep the car alive while you are slowing down

it was doing that when i was using 89 octane. now im using 91 octane and its not cuttin off any more. i noticed that when i step on the brake pedal it tries to die, and i smell gas. it leaves some sort of soot on the rear bumper.
