So my car started running like poo to say the least. Idk why. I changed the plugs, wires, cap n rotor. They deff needed to be changed. Well the problem is my cluster has no CEL. Ill post pics if needed. But on my left side there is the fuel light, squirts, a blank spot, cruise then another blank spot. On the right there is the brake light, oil, seat belt, doors, battery.

Any ideas?

so i changed out the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. it ran better. then started acting up. ended up being plug or wire number 4 was bad from the box. so i got a new one of each and it helped but still ran like garbage. i changed the fuel filter, which was full of crap, and it runs great now. but everyonce and a while it starts bucking while accelerating. kind of like when you are learning how to drive a manual. but it happens in any gear, any rpm. i took off the MAF just now and cleaned it. waiting on it to dry.

any other common things i could be missing? im not familiar with nissans as this is my first one.

the cleaning of the MAF didnt really help. i took a trip to the grocery store, it was fine almost all the way there. then it started doing the same thing. randomly studdering and bucking. could it be bad gas? all of this started about 5mins to 10mins after fueling up.

Wow no one has chimed in. Jeez!

The only thing I can think of is an injector. But if that goes out the car sounds like a V8. The fuel pump goes out, the car won't rev above 4000rpms I think. Maybe its a Fuse, check your fuses. And check the relays under the hood. I think either of these may be your problem.

You really won't get any CEL with a 89.

Lol I'm surprised no one else has as well. I'm thinking the fuel pump is on its way out. It idles perfect, but as soon as I start to go it just studders. any fuses in particular I should check?

I put some fuel injector cleaner and gas treatment in it while I topped off the tank about an hour ago. Drove around, found a nice wet parking lot. Its running a lot better. It will randomly studder but for a second then goes away. So I'm really leaning toward a clogged injector or bad fuel. If it changed ill post back.

Everything under the dash by the kick plate. Check out the relays under the dash, and check the relays under the hood. If you suspect anything replace it.

Maybe it is the fuel pump. The car is older. Maybe there was something in the gas tank. You shouldn't run it bone dry, but I would put in SEAFOAM as a fuel additive and see what happens. Just place it in ur gas tank with a fuel up.

Is your mpg good? If you can get 350 miles to a full tank, you're doin good. Or atleast 300-320.

Oh ok you did, and it got better, great.

Turn the car on and with it running, disconnect each plug off of each injector.

If the car boggs down, then the injector is good. If the car does not change any idle or anything then the injector is bad.

If you turn the car to the key ON position, you should hear the fuel pump prime. A sole indication the fuel pump has gone out is a blown fuse.

same thing happened to me. i had a completely dead injector, so definitely try this ^^

i havent gone through a full tank of gas yet. iv only owned the car a week. it got around 150miles to half a tank, so that would be 300 or so. i tried the turning the key to on and listening but my stupid passenger seatbelt is freaked up so that makes noise lol. ill try the injector plugs this saturday. it still is a lot better tho. it drives fine, then randomly taking off at a light it will stumble and then catch itself.

Injector testing:

Start the car, take each plug one at a time off each injector

If the car stumbles, the injector is good

If there is no change in the idle or anything then the injector is bad.

Stop driving the car before you dry the cylinder up and destroy the motor

Mine is doing the same thing. Its my injector wiring harness. If I go and touch it and wiggle the wire around while the cars running. starts to sound like a subaru

i just figured out my problem as well. i was wiggling the injector harness and thought that maybe a wire was frayed. looked each injector, nothing. saw a small bundle of vacuum hoses right behind the valve cover, one popped right off bc it was dry rotted. replaced that and the other one with some new hose i had laying around and runs like a charms. so before you go getting/buying a newinjector harness check those little hoses back there. damn hose.

so the vacuum hose needed replacing but after re-reading your post i went out and messed with that section of the harness. it started missing when i pushed on it. i singled out that number 4 injector plug is messed up. im gonna try some electrical contact cleaner and see if it helps. if it doesnt im going to cut about 6" of wire from the plug and use one from my friends spare harness.
