I didn't think removing the cat would make the car THAT LOUD

Completely stock exhaust, even the resonator is still there intact - not leaking.

Put in a test pipe because the stock cat was ready to fall off. Man the car sounds like a chainsaw at best.

However the muffler doesn't look too well and it has a couple of small holes. Maybe its shot? It certainly doesn't seem to 'muffle' any sound.

I'm now looking to replace the muffler because the rest of the exhaust system is good......sooo many different mufflers on ebay...

the best thing for you to do IMO is have an exaust shop cusom make you piping for about 100-120 and put a muffler off of ebay on it. and that would make it have a nice tone. and if you get a knockoff (like i have on one of my 240's) most people wont know the difference.

well, if my existing piping is still good, how did removing the cat make it sound like ***?

The muffler must be shot because the resonator is still there and it sounds like theres no muffler at all I swear

If you get a cat back exhaust put together by a muffler shop for 120 dollars, then you got a ****ty cat back. The labor alone on my turbo back system was 550 bucks, but thats what racing quality flanges, great welding, and using all the factory hangers gets you. Quality comes at a price usually.

Yeah I would say your muffler is shot out... I welded up a 2.5" stainless test pipe for my ex-gf's 92 and it sounded throaty, not loud and raspy.

Her car has a stock exhaust before and after the pipe.

If you paid 550 bucks labor on an exhaust...I think you're the one who got the ****ty deal. Back to the question at hand, muffler is prolly shot, it shouldnt sound that bad.

Well, it was turbo back and he had to deal with tight spaces, a wastegate dump, and my crazy ideas for it. I could easily have gotten it done cheaper but at least I know its done right. It was a custom exhaust place that does a lot of work on race cars and really nice vehicles. In fact, I had to wait a while because one of the Dallas Cowboy's C5 Vette's was in line before me. I think it took them 10+ hours to do mine, so I'm not complaining about the price, it looks good, it sounds good, and I know it was put together EXACTLY to my specifications. Anyway...back to the question at hand which I forgot to address at all last time. Yeah, your muffler is shot. I agree with Alan's idea and also the muffler he mentioned should allow you to maintain a pretty stockish look yet make things sound a lot better. If there are holes of any kind in your muffler, chances are its not doing its job anymore.

Do they make a borla turbo for the 240sx or do I have to get a generic?

I'm just looking for ease of installation, since I won't be taking this to a muffler shop to be put on.
