I don't remember putting that on, but I put rtv around the whole cover, including that spot, has anyone not put that o ring on? I don't think it would leak as long as i had rtv around it.

LOL, good luck.

I tend to have problems with RTV in any area, called for or not. But as I heard from my grandfather, "Get it right the first time and never think of it again."

He was talking about some Vietnamese hooker, though.

Just Re-do it. You are talking about a front cover, not the engine internals.

right, but i have a metal head gasket and my head is already torqued down, if i pull the cover off now it'll be a pain in the a** to get back on without harming the head gasket. :/

Ummm... Metal head gaskets are reusable.. How in the world are you going to harm it?

An easy way to avoid messing up the front section of the head gasket is to not install the oil pump spacer before you put the front cover back on. You'll have to rotate the pump gear around and get it lined up to be able to slide the spacer back in after it's installed though. But it will give you the clearances to get the cover on without screwing the headgasket up.

I know redoing things suck but would you rather...

A. fix it now with engine out of car and know its correct or

B. hope it seals but it doesn't, and no internals get damaged, have to fix it with engine in the car or

C. hope it seals but doesn't and you end up trashing your whole engine and starting over

I'd go with A... On a side note... I put most of my SR together back in 03-04 and I don't remember doing some things even though I most likely did... I might break mine down again just to be sure if my leak down and compression numbers aren't to my liking

I made the same mistake previously which led me to a rebuild #2 with a different head. That hole is the oil output from your pump. In my case, a booger of RTV got sucked in that hole and made its way to the head, finally chocking off the oil supply to the head. After that, my head was running dry which obviously produced a lot of metal shaving which burned up all my bearings.

In summary, fix it now.

i would definitely redo it. especially if the motors still out of the car. leaving gaskets out and hoping for the best is never a good idea.

LOL Probably not now. For some reason, the op seems like the type to ask a question until he hears what he wants to hear, instead of the correct answer.
