Three cars that are at the forefront of my mind when I thing "driver's car" and while there are many more, no disrespect to the other great cars worth of the title, all three of these are at the top of MY list of cars I would want to test drive. I have to say, these guys said everything I was thinking and the results are exactly what I expected them to be.
The S2000, if it were still sold and I could afford it would be IT. That old S2000s perform like they do is testament to Honda's lost commitment to the art of a driving machine, that are still tight and performing after all these years proves they didn't cut corners on build quality either. They were worth it when new, they are worth in now in the used market. That's top notch escort. It has more capability than you do and people know you are a high roller.
The RX8 would win me over, I love rotaries and I think Mazda's commitment to the car was on par with Honda's on theirs, but it's JUST SO FRIGGIN UGLY! Even if it was turbo I would still not want one. I'd get an FD and repair it before trying to justify the ugly, albeit capable vehicle. It's like an old p0rn star. She will rock you, but you want to turn out the light and try to keep your friends from seeing you.
The FRS, to be fair, even though it was built to be a driver's car, I think the target was somewhat different. The S2000 is finished, it's perfect. IMO It was aimed at more mature drivers who want to roll off the lot and immediately ride the razor's edge. The FRS seems like a starter driver's car. It's good, but not great. It can achieve greatness, but it will have to be upgraded. I think it was aimed at newer drivers and people looking for a little "fun." This is a drunk college chick who wants to party. She's not as experienced, you can't take her to a fancy restaurant, but she is up for anything and has the potential to grow into something great. The most likely one to get you into trouble.
I think that's what I'm looking for. I'm looking to get seriously back into driving, but I'm not ready to completely grow up. I think that's why if I was able to afford a Porsche, I'd be buying a Caymen instead of a 911. A lamborghini, a Gallardo instead of an Aventador. I'm just like that.
