I did it. Left the car on while I went to restaurant!

There I was so happy I remembered to turn off the lights (former Pathfinder, lights were auto)...and I wondered why the horn didn't beep when I locked up. Well, about an hour later I came out of the restaurant and there was my sleek black Rogue, all fired up and running. Yikes.

With intelli key you have to physically use the remote key to lock the doors, but not to open them or turn on the ignition...it really feels weird when you turn the lock with your fingers without a key and the car starts, ditto for turning it off. There's a little soft button on the handle that you press and the doors open as long as you have the key somewhere on you.

I was busy talking to my passengers and totally distracted, got out, locked the door using the remote and walked away. The car does run quietly...that's the good thing, now just to remember to pay attention to what I'm doing!

I also went somewhere with valet parking, got out of the car with my key in my purse and disappeared inside the place I was going. When I came out the valet man, "I need your key to start the car"! It has to be inside the car in order to start it. It's fun learning something new!

Makes you wonder about the need for an 'intellikey' doesn't it? It's a little quirky. Remember the old headache ad where she yelled "I'D RATHER DO IT MYSELF!?

most cars should shut off if they get too far from the key fob. does the rogue not do this?

No, it doesn't but it will beep the signal sound when you walk away.

It will beep three times if you lock it from outside with the button on the handle while running.

I was at the Palisades Mall last weekend and it was raining cats, dogs and elephants, and I was in a such a rush to open my umbrella and book it into the mall that I forgot to shut my car off. I opened the door, got out while opening my umbrella, closed the door, hit the button, heard the three beeps (at the time not realizing what it meant) and left. The rain was so hard I didn't even hear the car running. Ironically, I had not forgotten to turn off the lights, or I would've noticed the car was on from visual cue.

I was in the mall for four hours before coming back out to find it running and the gas tank low.

Seems like Nissan should do something about the Intellikey logic. Perhaps shut off the car if you lock it while running? Better yet, save the enviornment and implement an auto stop if the vehicle idles for more than a minute while in park.

Oh thank goodness I'm not alone! I left Iris running a couple of weeks ago while grocery shopping.

My husband distracted me (it doesn't take much). I went to lock her with the button on the door and heard some beeps. I thought I'd left the lights on but that wasn't it. I couldn't figure it out so ended up using the fob to lock her.

I didn't realize until I got back into the car that it was still running! Jeez....I'll never hear the end of that one!

If the US had Daytime running lights like Canada that would help. Also your idea of shutting the car down after idling 1 minute would be tough on us up North here. Here is a shot of my truck idling on the coldest day of the winter(taken on Jan 31, 2008). THe temp was a chilly -45 celcius!

I do make an effort to reduce idling just to save money, forget the environment...lol

nope, as mentioned all you have to do is close the door and push the little button on the handle.

It's no different than walking away from a running vehicle with the keys left in the ignition. The difference with the Rogue is that it will beep three times if you leave it running when you close the door. Therefore, always wait and listen for the beeps as you leave the vehicle; 2 beeps locked, 3 beeps and you have left it running. If you leave the keys in the Rogue without it running, you will hear a continuous beeping.

I've done it, too. So nice to see that I'm not alone!

I did it the second week that I had my Rogue. I was coming home from work and had stopped to pick up some groceries. When I was pulling into my parking space at my condo, I was talking on my cell phone and thinking that I need to remember to get my groceries out. Also, as I was pulling in, I see a neighbor waiting to talk to me. There was also some remodeling going on at the unit that I park in front of ... lots of loud drilling.

So, I was distracted. Got off my phone, talked to my neigbor (practically yelling over all the noise), remembered my groceries and went inside.

A different neighbor knocked on my door over two hours later and said it was running! Yikes!

In telling a couple of other neighbors what I did, they both said that they thought they heard it running when I went in that day, but they guy doing the work on the condo insisted that it was just a fan motor running.

Anyway, burned gas unneccissarily, but I'm kind of glad that it happened because now I'm paranoid about it, so I know I'll probably never do it again.

Exactly...it's one of those things that I think the great majority who do it once will never do it a second time.

Oh man! That's too bad that it was left running.

This makes me wonder, DO ROGUES (S model especially) HAVE AUTO SHUT OFF HEADLIGHTS?

What's intelligent, the key or the person carrying it?

So can people get into your car and drive off?
