See what driving fast does for me. I'm so fast........

Then there's the blazing NC coast sun. I hear that right above the coast of Carolina the Ozone is gone and it'll do this to your car.......

And I don't think they have Jergens for cars because mine needs some for this.......

and then, as if that weren't enough........

So there you go. You can see what's happening to my Q and why I need that paint job. I was trying to wait for my VIP kit, but that was sold right out from under me. I will have a kit eventually but it seems now with everything I'm doing and the money I don't have, I'll have to just get the car painted without the kit and have that done latter. The paint lasted from 1994 until now and the color was Emerald Black(Forest Green). Guess I should slow down because at the speeds I'm driving the paint is coming right off!!!

Do you think it's possible that the car had paint work in the past? That's pretty unusual... especially the flaking clear coat.

yikes.... Im almost inclined to agree with heath, but then again if it never saw a wax job until you bought it, then its hard to say.

It could be one of those dealer-applied "hard coatings" or whatever they're called. Was there a sticker on one of the windows advertising anything like that?

There's one half-dime sized spot on my car, right on the roof, where the clear coat looks like it wants to come off. The Q will remain garaged as much as possible!

It was repainted after the repair had been done after the first owner wrecked it in 94. So the Dealer repaired and repainted it. You can see the rubber strip on the front bumper was painted over when this was done, but the rubber strip on the rear bumper was not. When I first got the car it was just starting to flake and has spread this much in two years. I actually think waxing it hurt it in some way. Knock on wood, I still see no rust anywhere on the car. Not bad for being on the salty coast. Notice all the flaking is on the roof of the car. Sun? Lack of waxing by previous owners? Maybe even the wax I was using? Speeds at which the car is subjected to I just don't know.

huh.....thought mine was unusual 'cause i never seen any post complaining 'bout it on here, but my 93 looks the same on the rear driver's side roof. i bought it in hawaii and figured the previous owner just ain't wax too often. i've been toughguardng it yearly though and have developed no new spots. paint job coming in the near future though...

We're not the only ones. I've seend cars on Ebay with the same spots in different places that look just like mine. Was your car ever re-painted at a dealer? Wondering if the re-paint job is whats failing due to skimping on the clear coat or using something different.

no...it's the original paint. i bought it from a neighbor and, aside from the lack of waxing, he took good care of it. it doesn' suprise me though....i mean 12+ yrs in the island sun...this just gives me an excuse to do spend more time and money with my q...
