Daughter was home from school. I change her belts in her QX4.
Daughter goes back and week later belts make a screaming noise when she starts it.
Noise goes off and never comes back on even when she stops and starts back.
Only when it sits for a long period of time..

Could me changeing belts cause pully to go OUT>>

Did you really join over 4 years ago and wait this long to post? In any case, :welcome: to NICO!

I wouldn't think they're related unless you overtightened the belts...

Heath

As a side note, I'm moving this to our Infiniti Online Mechanic forum, since we're talking about the QX4 instead of a Q45.

All pulleys are checked when all belts are replaced simultaneously, the latter to avoid repeat labor.

Any imperfection at all cause bearings to be replaced with top grade bearings as belt stress will magnify any imperfection.

The sound of screaming belt is only when she starts it.. Then she does not hear it again.
I take it that the bearing heats up... Daughter will be home next weekend trip is 500 miles home.. You think the pulley will be ok to make it home????

Very easy. Just have to press them in. Honestly, if you buy the pulleys themselves IOS will give you a discount if you buy more than one. The bearings aren't too popular through auto part stores. That might not be the cheapest route to buy the pulleys themselves but its less time consuming and its a 100% guarantee

I agree, replace the entire pully assembly- not that expensive at IOS- the old pullys also develop wear from the belt constantly rotating over them which shortens life of new belts, so just replacing the bearings and reusing the old pullys is not a wise idea. PS, my factory installed pullys lasted 203,000 miles before I had to replace them, so the expense is really just a one time expendature over the useful life of the car.

Loosen center nut, take tension off of belt by turning the bolt, remove center nut taking care to keep all of the spacers and washers in the same order.

All of that said, how much did you save with the AutoZone parts vs. OEM through an online vendor like http://www.everythinginfiniti.com (a/k/a Infiniti of Scottsdale, a/k/a "Joe")?

I suspect you'll have a lot better results long term with factory parts.

Congratulations to your daughter on her soon-to-be doctorate! You have to feel a lot of pride knowing that you did something right along the way.

The squealing around turns is probably due to the PS pump working harder during the turn.

How much you wanna bet this and the other thread you have are related?

Is is possible the belt was tightened to the point it damaged the shaft bearings of the alternator. Typically a noisy belt signifies a loose belt. Over time I have seen slightly loose tensioner pulleys also cause this and for the belt to actually fall off.

Hope everythings back to normal. :dblthumb:

I have to agree with you... ALL THIS started after I change the belts...
Both belts had cracks on them.. With her driving so far away I thought it was the best to do... I thought it changed the motion on the pulley and did this..
I just hope it is all done fixed now... Evertime I get a call from here my butt starts puckering up thinking I will hear Dad now my.....\
What is a 03 Infinety QX4 with 100K miles on it worth????????

Yeah we have all had those moments. For me it was when I was courting my now wife and could not for the life of me work on her car without causing 5 more problems.
