It's a car.
Quality beats the **** out of quantity everyday of the week.
And to be honest...you could buy two VERY nice speakers and run the subwoofer's and you'd be none the wiser.
But since I'm sure you're going to have guests from time to time then 4 high quality speakers are what you will want to go with.
Now what kind is the question at hand. Before you answer that though:
1. What kind of head unit do you have and what is the internal amp's power?
You see, knowing how much power the internal amp is running will help because even though you may purchase very high quality speakers, they are ONLY as good as what you run them with.
For example, if you have a cheap Sony or JVC head unit and you are running 4 Rockford Fosgate Power series speakers, you will be disappointed, but it’s not the speakers fault. Speakers are only as good as the amp that’s powering them!!!! If you have a cheap head unit, you are actually better off buying cheaper speakers because they will be pushed to their full potential.
Once you know how much you're head unit will put out, you just need to match it with speakers that will handle closer to that.
2. Is the Amp you bought for the subwoofers a mono-block amp or is it a multi-channel?
If you're amp has more than one channel that means you can run two speakers off of your head unit and the other set off of your amp as well as the subwoofers (IFF **if and only if** the subwoofers you are running do not need to be bridged…but that’s another story). This setup will giver you a better sound quality for sure.
If you do have a multi-channel amp, you also might want to think about which speakers you want to amp, I recommend the front speakers since they are the ones you will hear the most.
When buying speakers, you also have to think about the option of coaxial or components. The difference is coaxial speakers have a fixed tweeter, where as the components have removable tweeters that allow you to mount them in other area's. This decision is influenced by where your front speakers are located. If your front speakers are located on the kick panels you may want to consider components if you have a nice place to mount your tweeters because this actually brings the sound up from the floor and makes it the music crisper and brings it closer to you. If your speakers are on the dash it won't matter as much.
I hope this helps you decide on what you want to do. Just for personal knowledge what kind of amp and subs are you running by chance?
Good luck!!
