So, my friend and i were coming back (to Austin) from Dallas on I-35, and there were this white car, Dodge i think, in front of us. the driver (girl) and us were on the far left lane, with the concrete dividers to the left. She was trying to change lanes, but didnt see the car that was in her blind spot. as she was chaning lanes, she saw the car and jerk her wheel to the left and realized that she was heading to the wall and jerked the wheel back to the right, but she overs corrected, and so she jerk the wheel back to the left, only this time, she goes in to the wall. the front of her car goes ON TOP of the dividers, sparks fly, she goes airborne, and flips over and slide all the way across the highway. Miraculously, she didnt get hurt, but did manage to piss her self.

you think things like this all the time on TV, but seeing it in real life changes a person. and make you feel things that are hard to explain.

Wow, that would be pretty messed up...sounds like a pretty preventable accident though...like she flipped out instead of making small corrections.

but, wow.

i saw something very similar but a lot worst in a way.... this was about a month ago, a 7 series bmw was going crazy on the highway, even tried to race me at one point (lol)

anyways he ended up hitting a pole and he also hit the baricade like in your story, only he ended up flipping the car over on to the opposite side of the highway and the car blew up when i reached it.

i posted the story on a local nyc car forum, ended up finding out the guy got 3rd degree burns all over his body. his girlfriend though wasnt wearing a seatbelt and she flew out of the car and got hit by another car from uncoming traffic.... she died.

stupid driving leads to that... sad really

I completely understand how what you mean by it makes you feel different. Just last week I was comin home from work on the freeway and witnessed a bad accident. I didn't see the first part of it, but my guess is that there was a car in the right lane that tried to get into the middle lane but didn't see the other car there and hit them. So there's two cars sitting in the middle lane. Someone in an SUV behind them was going to fast to stop. They swerved into the right lane to avoid hitting them, but there was a semi that definetly couldn't stop and it slammed right into the side of the SUV. The SUV went flying and rolled a few times. It was ridiculous. So I'm on edge the rest of the way home, and when I get there I hear that the accident I witnessed was fatal. It really does change you, knowing that you witnessed someones death...

Needless to say, since then, everytime I see someone changing lanes, I cringe. And when I see the retarted people that are weaving between the lanes so they don't have to slow down, I just get really mad because it's people like them that help cause a lot of these tragedies.

As we're on the subject I witnessed a pretty horrific accident as well...

Me and three friends were coming back home from Six Flags and we were on the I-5 freeway.About half way home we see this huge cloud of smoke come from the other side of the freeway from quite a distance. As we get closer we see about 10 people on the other sides emergency lane staring off the freeway, and right past them... Flames about 4 stories high with clouds pouring out of them.We try calling 911 over and over (seen how this just happened as we were approaching it) and since we're on the freeway it redirects us to highway patrol, they're lines are busy so we can't get through to anybody.

I get home and my mom has heard nothing but the next morning we find out that upwards of 30 trucks were involved and killed like 2 or 3 people.

This was the fastest link I could pull up if you're interested.http://www.landlinemag.com/tod...1.htm

I saw a van roll over in the middle lane of the high way. Traffic slowed down so naturally and only the van was involved. He over corrected as well.

It was pretty amazin and crazy no idea about the occupants of the vehicle i was late for hockey.

Late for hockey means late for the beer as well :P

just going to through my experience for you g

i saw this about 3weeks ago white car looked like a neon changes lanes with out looking i guess and clips the front of a maxima the maxima corrects but the neon gets pitted and spins 540 through about 8 lanes and hits the barrier i blame it on the poor construction of the fl turnpike not marking the lane. this was at that big toll before okechobee for those floridians out there.

i was coming back up from Philadelphia. i was on i-95. on the other side of the highway, i see this van's tire blow out. the guy loses control of the van, it slides across all 4 lanes, hits the divider. the van starts spitting out smoke from the engine. and then he slides all the way across the 4 lanes again and ends up on the grass. LUCKILY, he didnt hit anyone else. i don't know what happened to the driver though.this was back in april btw.

Personally, I think driver's ed should include a correction/avoidance segment at highway (40+) speed . Seems like a large number of preventable accidents are from over correcting in a panic to a situation. One being simply going off the road on to a gravel shoulder. SO many drivers yank the wheel and pop themselves over 2 lanes, either into traffic next to them or worse into oncoming traffic. The shoulder will pull the car, so the driver feels a need to pull the car the other way. When you know what you are doing, it's easy, just let off the gas, hold the wheel steady and then gently move the car back onto the road.

That accident a few years ago that killed all of those cheerleaders was caused by the young driver over correcting when she went off the shoulder into the path of an oncoming truck. I plan on showing my kid how to do it when he is old enough so he knows what it feels like and can safely recover.
