HiI have a 89 240sx coupe, I always had a problem with my key, it doesn't turn smoothly, sometime not at all. One day, after i cleaned the interior, i tried to start my car and close the windows, but the key didn't turn. So i just put a piece of metal between the two wires in electrical part of ignition switch to close the windows(in the ignition switch harness, wires) and it smoked. After that, i can't start my car. i check the fuses and everything was fine. Dashboard light worked and lights worked(they don't need a key to work). but power windows and power sunroof, start motor and everything that need key to work, doesn't work. so I changed the Ignition switch harness (boutht it for 56$ from nissan dealer)but it didn't work neither. when i put the key in, nothing happens(usually engine check light and other lights are on when i put the key in). it like the car is not reading the key. what do i have to do? what might be a problem? i can't just simply bring it to dealer....... i don't have money T.T

ps. sorry about broken english. i'm not an american but this's the only place i can ask question about my 240...... (T.T)

welcome to nico friend.you need to check for power and ground at the ign switch. it really sounds like you would have blown a fuse but you checked those. also posible to have blown the fusible links. did you check them as well? they are the wires on the batt positive terminal. also there may be some in the fuse boxes that look like big fuses.
