I have an 07 M35x with all the available packages (adv tech) but no flip down screen. I can't seem to get the DVD player to function properly.

I hear the movie sounds but no picture and I can't select any options (subtitles etc...). Does anyone know exactly am I doing wrong?

Stupid question #1:Are you driving? If so that is exactly how it is supposed to work so we don't watch movies and drive at the same time. There is a hack available to skirt that though.

I think there is a way if parked that you can switch between AUX and DVD, check your owner's manual (or the one online here)

3 things...

1) Like striz923 mentioned, if the car is moving, then there will be no video.

2) If the car is stopped with the PARKING BRAKE ON, it will show video.

3) With the DVD hack, you can watch video while the car is moving or parked, without use of the parking brake.

I would like to emphasize that the PARKING BRAKE IS ON. Stupidly, when trying this out in my car, I interpreted "Parking Brake is on" as the "The car is in park". I couldnt get it to work like you and then i realized that pedal to the left of brake needs to be pushed in. I rarely use the parking brake so it took me about 2 days to figure out what i was doing wrong.DVD in the car is cool but how many times really are you pulled over somewhere with your parking brake on watching a movie?

Thanks men, I feel stupid. I thought leaving the parking brake on mean't putting the gear stick to "Park". Wow that was a ditzy moment for me. Thanks guys I will try it out today.
